As an absolute beginning Autoharp player this is a great book to start with. Many of the songs are old favorites, as this helps as you will know how they are supposed to sound but other songs may be unfamiliar. The different strumming techniques are presented, practiced and then applied to various songs. You can learn to play the songs simply and then apply advanced strums. This book would be an excellent choice to start with and has enough material to built upon to develop your skills.

Good for beginners or experienced musicians,

I have been playing music for over 20 years and I decided to take up the autoharp for school instruction. This book goes over different strumming styles, melody picking, and is full of great tunes. I was pleased with it. They explain in detail what to do and how to do it, and even give great examples of styles such as calypso! This is where I learned "Wildwood Flower".

As usual, you can't go wrong getting a Mel Bay instruction book. All of the basics needed to start mastering this instrument, the AutoHarp. Of course, I would like to see the songs updated in their books, but traditional songs will alway be in favor for learning. Buy this one first.

A friend of mine wanted a copy of her own after an evening we spent singing the songs in the book. At least for me and my friends, a great selection of rather well known songs. Thanks. MF

I purchased this based on other reviews. And they were right! If you patiently go thru the book (or hop around like me) you'll be playing simple tunes immediately. I love the fact that you learn different strum and syncopation styles as well. Once you do, you can be more creative on the easier pieces. My favorite in this book is The Sloop John B. Have fun!

Meg Peterson is the premier Autoharp teacher in the U.S., and she is the best judge we ever had at the Walnut Valley Festial in Winfield, Kansas. C'mon down sometime! (Bring something to pick, too!) "Thanks, Meg!"
