An excellent beginner's book that teaches simple chord strumming. A companion CD and DVD are currently available and the use of one of these is highly recommended to insure accuracy of interpretation and ease in learning.

Stupid- Proof,
By Luke Holder (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mel Bay's Fun With the Guitar (Paperback)
This book is imperitive for all beginners, I have been playing the guitar for 3 months now, and this book gave me the flying start. The book is 'stupid-proof' anyone can learn all the basics for guitar with this book. Bottom line, buy it!

Outdated - there are much better beginner's books.,

This review is from: Mel Bay's Fun With the Guitar (Paperback)
This book should have been updated long ago - it still talks of tuning with pitch pipes and pianos, and all the songs are old folk songs ("Nellie Gray", "Oh, Susanna", "My Bonnie ...").Though aimed at absolute beginners, there are very few written instructions - you are expected to start playing your guitar just by looking at a few diagrams. Also, some basic music theory should have been included. There are much more comprehensive and well-written beginner's guides on the internet (and available for free, too).
