Master Vocal, Master Piano Command - What Else to Say, July 10, 2000
This review is from: Mel & George Do World War 2 (Audio CD)
... OK, the repertoire is II War songs, a brilliant idea possibly credited to Tormé. This is a live recording with a beautiful opening by George Shearing playing "Lili Marlene" in a sensitive way that I presume must have shocked the audience due to their complete silence and reverence and to Shearing's tenderness. Don't lose the chance to listen to it.

A nostalgic mix of fun and romance, June 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mel & George Do World War 2 (Audio CD)
Torme and Shearing team up to present the best of the songs of the World War II era. They emphasize romantic ballads, with some lighter songs (e.g. "This is the Army") added for fun. This listener, born nine years after the war ended, wanted to go and volunteer at the nearest Stage Door Canteen after hearing this recording for the first time. It's that real, that moving, that good.

I found this disk brilliant and was delighted when i was able to obtain it through amazon. i first heard it on the Russell DAVIES SHOW on BBC radio two and was amazed at how these two great tunesmiths work so well together. Great melodies too from a sad time in our history.

Re do the musical clips., May 13, 2011

The sampling facility needs redoing - you do not get the song you request - but anyway, being Mel and George, five stars is almost mandatory.

Great music! Particularly if you are a fan of Mel Torme or George Shearing or World War II music.
Not a ' must' but a joy to have and hold.

Shearing and Torme WWII, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Mel & George Do World War 2 (Audio CD)
My CD is technically flawed. The word "Ellington" is only half there. There are other technical issues with this CD such some faulty sound quality.
