This review is from: Mel Bay Improvisational Techniques for Jazz Guitar (Paperback)
Book appears to be a book of advanced jazz guitar licks and/or ideas on improvisation with few opportunies to apply practical application.
This book does offer an explanation(analyzation)of each sample idea or lick ,but, to UNDERSTAND and APPLY each lick or improvisation idea to your playing, I would think you would have to have an intermediate to advance or solid background in construction of chords ,chord substitutions, scales and general improvisation. I do not believe this book is for the beginner or intermediate player. If you are an advanced player with music theory or background as mentioned above,or just have a good ear for jazz, and you are looking to add more licks and improvisation ideas to your playing, then you may enjoy and should be able to apply some ot the licks or ideas in his book to to your own style of playing. |
