A Pleasant Evening's Listening,
By ProsaicParadise (Laurel, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mel Torme's Finest Hour (MP3 Download)
This compilation of songs is a terrific showcase for the tender and fun sides of Mel Torme's voice. It also happens to be the only place I could find his version of "The Hut Sut Song" which is my favorite version. If you are a big fan of that new kid on the block Michael Buble, you might well look backward to see the roots of his style of vocals.

Great interpretations of early bigband tunes,

Mel did a great job of re-interpreting bigband/jazz tunes from 20/30/40s. My favorite is the Cement mixer song. If you haven't heard the original, check out Slim Gaillard. Most of the songs are pretty short on this CD and moderate temple, so it's great for swing dancing too!

Mostly trite material,

This review is from: Mel Torme's Finest Hour (Audio CD)
This was my first Torme CD purchase, so I don't know much, but it seems to me that it must be a collection of early material. Most of the songs are trivial, bordering on inane. There must be much better Torme collections, because I know he's better than this.
