Haunting Ambience,
This review is from: Melancholia (MP3 Download)
William Basinski has composed a collection of lovely and evocative impressionistic sonic images that remind me of some of the better works of Harold Budd.

This review is from: Melancholia (Audio CD)
"Melancholia" traces a gentle, eerie path through a selection of aural vignettes that together form a sort of mental scrapbook of musical thoughts.
William Basinski employs a method of music-making that is in time with the memory-evoking style of Boards Of Canada. It unfolds and evaporates in sparse and confounding waves, but with the gentleness of Loscil or Marsen Jules. What might have begun as a cycle of simple piano melodies and incomplete passages becomes transformed by distance and perspective. Fans of Akira Rabelais' "Eisoptrophobia" should pay particular attention. |
