5.0 out of 5 stars Metal Delight, May 2, 2007

I think i nutted after hearing track 3. I have longed for a metal effort that had some reminisce of 80's metal (not talking hair band B.S.). This album combines the 80's metal effort with a later proggressive sound. Lance Kings vocals and style bring to mind QueensRyche G. Tate. The riffs throught out the album are bone crunching and the solo's are amazing. I not one that cares for keyboards but they are incorprated perfectly within the music. If your a fan of Queensryche, Iron Maiden...ect you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars really really really good stuff, no really, August 13, 2005

Man. In the future I'm going to quit my job and just follow Lance King around. He and Rob Rock formerly of Impellitteri and now solo have got be my faves as singers go right now. Pyramaze is in one word, tight. Power/prog to the nth degree with great guitars, drumming and bass keeping everyone dialed in and then the vox. Man, Lance can sing. I only gave it four stars 'cause I'm afraid to give debuts like this a five and then have them come out with an even better album. Love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars power-prog that has stood the test of time, October 3, 2004
This review is from: Melancholy Beast (Audio CD)
I've updated my review. In the original I said that they sound "like a fully realized version of Queensryche". However now knowing better I would say that this CD is a fully realized version of Lance King. He was a great singer on Balance of Power, but this CD is the best match for his talent, from the swooning introspective ballad "Until We Fade Away", to the powerful rockers "Mighty Abyss" or "Legend". Lance has sang with many other bands (Empire, Defyance, Warmachine, Shining Star, Avian, etc.) This CD is a little more complex/prog oriented than their power-driven 'Bone Carver' CD. This is essential prog metal for anybody's collection.

Well, i dove into this band without knowing much about them, they are mostly unknown in general, so i knew i was taking a chance. I was surprised, i was inmedietly reminded of a heavier sounding queensryche. Its a good combo of melodic power metal. I highly recomend the album for progressive and melodic metal lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now this is how prog metal should be done!, May 17, 2007

If you like Dream Theather and Queensryche, you'll love this cd.

The band is solid and the tunes are great. Production is very good and the cd jacket is also very informative.

At times during the listening of this cd you'd swear Geoff Tate from Queensryche was singing it as the voice is quite similar to Lance King the vocalist for Pyramaze. The guitars, bass and keys are great and the drumming is solid and driving. These guys have it together and this release is a very nice surprise. It just goes to prove that yet again good music can be found, you just have to looking for it.

Buy this cd!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid progressive melodic power-metal..., February 3, 2007
This review is from: Melancholy Beast (Audio CD)
'Melancholy Beast' is the first release from this Danish / American band and a pretty solid debut album if I might add. As stated in the title of the review, this band throws in progressive touches from time to time that add depth to their songs. Musicianship is top notch, and their vocalist ( through the first 2 albums, he has since departed ) deserves mentioning here as well, as his great vocals play an intricate role in the sound of Pyramaze. Fans of melodic power metal look no further!

When I first heard "Mighty Abyss" on Internet radio, I was immediately impressed after just one listen and knew that I had to have the album that it was on. I was not disappointed in the least! After listening to Melancholy Beast, Pyramaze became one of my favorite bands. I love the vocal melodies and harmonies, and the music is fantastic too! Other favorite songs of mine are the title track, "Sleepy Hollow," and "The Journey." Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pyramaze Sets The Bar!, December 2, 2004
This review is from: Melancholy Beast (Audio CD)
First of all, you can't go wrong with Lance King behind the mic! Secondly, this is one of the best offerings of 2004. Stellar vocals and musicianship from beginning to end! Lance King, ex-Balance of Power, has brought the melody of BOP to a band that plays as heavy as Iced Earth! This is the band that Symphony X should team up with on the road! What do you say Lance and Russell?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Modern Power Metal, October 9, 2009

This review is from: Melancholy Beast (Audio CD)
Pyramaze is consistently good. I'd start with this disc and move forward if you like what you hear. Good, clean, heavy, melodic power metal is what you get. Anthemic vocals that never resort to growling with a decidely fantastic feel to the themes/lyrics. Really, this is just excellent metal with some great riffing and production. Buy with confidence. All three of their albums are strong and inter-changeable imho.
