Like most people, my exerience with sleep aids is limited to Nyquil and Tylenol PM, which work ok, but aren't made for regular consumption.

I have heard that melatonin doesn't work on some people, but it definitely works on me. Its effects are slightly more subtle than you might expect. It is much more pleasant in comparison to other chemicals. I do have to take 6 mg, but I am a big guy.

The best part, by far, is that there is no hangover or tiredness the next morning. I can take two and won't feel terrible if I get only 6 hours of sleep.

The Melatonin 5 mg time released product is wonderful! I take one about 20 minutes before turning off my lights and I can sleep for about 7 hours straight. I have used the 3 mg with no results so I am happy the 5 mg helps. I don't have any negative side effects. I suffer from much pain but don't want to take pain pills every night. Melatonin 5 mg has helped me achieve a good night's sleep. I wake up about 15 min before my alarm goes off and I don't feel groggy getting started in the mornings. It's great to have a natural product that works.

I am a terrible sleeper. Despite several prescription sleep aids, I did not sleep. My new doctor suggested going the natural route. I now take time released 5mg melatonin and 500mg L Tryptophan. I now average 4-5 hour per night of uninterrupted sleep! Before it only 2 hours or less and I was wide awake. Not expensive and it works.
