You need this CD!!!, October 9, 2003
This review is from: Melissa / Beginning (Audio CD)
If you consider yourself a metalhead then you absolutely need these two albums on one CD! The music is a little Black Sabbath, a little Judas Priest but there is something more here. There is a feeling that you get when you listen to early Mercyful Fate, something that cannot be explained, you just have to listen to the music to understand. Another thing that sets this band apart from others like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest is King Diamond's voice! Ozzy's voice is okay, and I do believe that Halford's is amazing but King Diamond is a God on the mic! The tracks sound amazing and you can't beat the price for these two great albums. My only complaint is that they should have added lyrics and pictures, but if your a fan of true metal, power metal, black metal or NWOBHM you'll love this.

Double the King for half the price., December 23, 2009

What can I say? In my opinion "Melissa" and "The Beginning" are a must have for all fans of King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, or for just those old-schoolers who would just rather have their metal fix on the 80's metal genre(like myself), we salute you.

A Kid's Review

mercyful fates debut album and e.p. all in one cd set, could anything be better? its definatly worth getting this edition of "melissa" and "the begining" because fate cds are 20 bucks a piece, but this will only cost you 15 bucks.now,on to the album.
the mercyful fate e.p. which is contained on the "begining" cd is very early, rough sounding, patchy fate, but awesome non the less despite the production. the songs "nuns have no fun",
"corpse w/ out a soul" "doomed by the living dead" and "devils eyes" were originally recorded in 1982 and came out on mercyful fate's first e.p., songs like "nuns have no fun" and "corpse w/ out a soul" show you that fate was not something your mom would be listening to. "melissa" which was released in 1983, fates first album, has the songs "evil", "curse of the pharaohs", "in to the coven","at the sound of the demon bell", "black funeral", "satans fall" and "melissa". this album is one of my all time favorite's. you should try to go out and find this one, you should make it one of the few metal albums to own.
the song "evil" is just so kick @$$ and a perfect way to start of an album. the whole album flows together, like every song is related to each other. definatly the scaryest thing you will listen to.
