Great First Piano!!!,
This review is from: Melissa & Doug Learn-To-Play Piano (Toy)
We got this piano for our two boys (4 & 2-1/2) to help them begin to learn how to play music. This piano makes it so easy for them with the colored key code that fits above the keys so that they can follow along with the music book. The look on their faces as they play (and sing along) with the songs is absolutely adorable! For us, we found the sound of the piano to be fine - no issues. One nice thing is that it's just loud enough...if you know what I mean. This keeps them occupied for hours on end. Five stars for this purchase - you won't be disappointed with this piano...and your kids will love it!!!

My Mom insisted on buying this for my 1 year old twins even though it suggests that it is suitable for 3 years and up. Well, they love it. They hammer on it, stand on it and pull it over. It is very robust. It is sufficiently in tune to play your favorite songs and comes with a handy little song book (probably more use to a 3 year old than my 1 year olds).

I checked this thing out in a toy store...Didnt buy it yet only because the kid's not even born. I do plan to encourage music so I'm looking at whats out there. This one seems like a good choice. Its colorful, but not overstimulating...as one reviewer said of another toy, " it doesn't scream cheap plastic kids toy" which you may or may not find important. I do, because I wonder if most kids (or even some adults) even know what wood is anymore. Why I think this one is better. It's wood, it's heavy (compared to the plastic ones) and it acts like a real piano, which is what you want from a toy like this. Others I've seen seem to do everything EXCEPT act like a piano. There are no batteries, and doesnt blast annoying electronic tunes at the touch of any random key. One key, one note, and the kid has to work for the song. Too many toys today do everything for the kids. I'll still get some electronic toys, and even one of the annoying electronic pianos, but lets face it, the more a toy entertains, the less it can teach. On to my big tip...i see alot of reviewers complaining about the screws falling out. from the one i saw, it looks like a possibility, but no sign of it on that particular one. But if it DOES happen, just put the screw back in with a drop of elmers glue on the threads and get over it. It's nontoxic, and, frankly, if your child is more interested in licking glue out of the screw holes than experimenting with the sounds then you are probably not raising a musical prodigy anyway. Try some chef toys instead.

When I first got this piano, the thing that bothered me was that the notes at the top of the keys is just a sheet of paper, barely glued on. I didn't know it was like this till a one-year old started picking at it, when I discovered it's only tacked by glue at either end. So, with a paintbrush, I glued it in and there it stayed. Then today, the whole thing fell apart when my tweenage son picked it up to move it. Keys, panels and everything just fell apart when it was picked up - it's as if the glue gave out. It's just not made well. It's glued together with pegs. Melissa and Doug, you've disappointed me. I paid full-price for this item, and didn't mind because of the M&D brand name and thought we'd have it for years. We've had it for less than 6 months. I see it is now about 22 dollars less...

My dog is a certified therapy dog. He is trained to visit schools, nursing homes and hospitals. I'm always trying to teach him new tricks to make the clients we visit smile. His latest trick is to play this piano. He sits down and plays with one paw and then the other. The piano is durable enough for a 55 lb dog to play with his paws. When he was first learning, he even tried to stand on it with his front paws and the piano was stable and did not tip over. He also drooled on the keyboard as he receives treats in the training process. The keys still work. We've had the piano for 2 months now and he plays on it everday. He loves it! I feel it is durable and fun and I would recommend it to both 4 and 2 legged children!

This was a Christmas present for my 2.8 year old and was a big hit. He really loves music and my husband is a good piano player so it is a good start to learn his first steps into piano. I really like that is a traditional little piano, not complicated, not electric, just what a little kid needs, and I also think this is a really good brand for wooden toys.

Ok so it doesn't stay in tune that well, but really its for kids. Now I got it for our daughter when she was only 10 months old, and she loves it! Pounds away and is having fun. Isn't that what a toy is supposed to do? Its built out of sturdy wood, this will last.

Listen before you buy,

We have the 4-key little tykes piano for my 21-month old son, which he has always loved. He has recently been really into pianos with more keys, and specifically the black-and-white keys. When we saw this, we thought it would make an excellent christmas gift as it's a "big boy's piano". We bought it cellaphone-wrapped, and when we got home unwrapped it, and were fairly disappointed with it's very tinny sound. We still plan on giving it to him for christmas and will write a new review then - we hope he loves it. Just a word of caution to try and listen to this particular piano before you purchase to be sure it's what you are looking for.
