i GOT THIS SET FOR THE PRESCHOOL THAT MY BABYSITTER RUNS. tHEY PLAYED WITH IT AND MADE XMAS TREES WITH THE STAMPER IMAGE AS THE ORNAMENTS. tHEN THEY DISCUSSED AND EXPLAINED WHAT THE FACES REPRESENTED TO THEM. HAPPY OR SAD... tHE BABYSITTER THOUGHT IT WAS A BIG HIT AND THE KIDS GOT REALLY INVOLVED WITH THE ART PROJECT.

I bought these for my son last year, and he has enjoyed them tremendously, so I thought I'd post a "happy-face" review.

He was fascinated by emotions, but like any 3-year-old, sometimes had a hard time expressing his own in words, so I thought this set would be a fun way to play around with the idea of naming emotions. He's 4 1/2 now and sometimes still holds them up to ask me what emotion each of the faces is feeling.

A nice "trick" for kids who aren't confident in their own drawing ability is that you can stamp a face and then add a stick-person body in action. You can also stamp a face and then ask the child to draw the situation around them that is making them feel that emotion.

In any event, I am more pleased with this set than I expected to be. The stampers are well-made, unlike the cheapie dollar-store ones where the picture part separates easily from the handle part. As others have commented, the ink is only so-so, which is why I've taken it down a star for durability. However, we already had the round jumbo ink pads (not melissa & doug) and those are still going strong, so we barely used the ones that came with this set anyway.

One additional note: this set is wonderful for any child, of course, but would be especially valuable for those working with kids anywhere on the autism spectrum, or those with Non-Verbal Learning Disability, to help familiarize them with the range of emotions they may encounter on others' faces and, as I did with my son, let them play around and practice naming emotions - even a couple of silly ones.

The stamps are cute and easy to use for a toddler, however the ink pads dry up very quickly and I haven't figured out how to replace the washable ink. I would like to avoid buying new stamp pads over and over again.

I love the stampers. They can be used in so many ways.
Great for therapy with children to express emotions. Also
can be used to tell stories or write captions for a child's day.
I would enjoy more emotion stampers to expand the options
but there are so many uses and very reasonable compared
to other similar products.
