Great toy, but....,

This review is from: Jumbo Castle Cardboard Blocks (Toy)
First of all, I bought these blocks from a toy store which was going out of business at 50% off (2/5 of amazon's price). I would NEVER,NEVER pay fifty dollars for one set of these blocks (which, by the way, includes 30 blocks, not 35) The box clearly states that there are 30 blocks, amazon must have a typo. I bought two sets of these blocks because I wanted my 3 1/2 year old son to have enough to play with and 30 just didn't seem like enough.
The blocks (technically "boxes")are a lighter-weight corrugated cardboard which you must fold together yourself. It didn't take me too long. The blocks have enough internal support to make them sturdy, however, I've instructed my son not to sit or step on the blocks. The one issue with sturdiness comes in when my son knocks down his castles. As the blocks fall, corners of some of the blocks have scratched and sometimes punctured other blocks. There are several different shapes of blocks. Each set contains 2 large rectangular blocks, 10 small rectangular blocks, 6 pentagonal blocks, 2 large triangular blocks, and 10 small triangular blocks. I think the manufacturer was trying to save money in putting in 10 small triangular blocks (the smallest block shape). My preference would be for 6 small triangular blocks and 4 more small rectangular blocks as my son and I can almost never find enough places to put all of the little triangle blocks. Even at the sale price, I probably wouldn't have purchased these except for the fact that I played with blocks similar to these as a child and I loved them. My son loves them as much as I do and just begs me to build a castle with them. They are much more exciting to him then small blocks (he can build bigger structures). I just hope they hold up.

This review is from: Jumbo Castle Cardboard Blocks (Toy)
These blocks (40) come in a flat package and take a while to assemble, but once you do a couple, you have the hang of it. Kids in the 3 - 8 age range enjoy them, and they do have some education value by virtue of the different possibilities for constructing a castle. Don't, however, expect them to last long. With repeated play by children of this age, they don't have extensive durability.
