Initially I ordered the Learning Resources food that everyone raves about - but it had a terrible chemical smell and for the price I didn't think the quality was very good. I ordered this food to replace it - and I LOVE it - couldn't be happier. Very high quality, no paint or chemical smell at all. each piece has a great attention to detail and is a nice size for my daughter (nearly 3 years old). I'm also pleased that I know it's a safe product because my year old son loves to put the pieces in his mouth. My daughter hasn't stopped playing with her food since she got it - she loves it. Great product!

So many toys that are great for young toddlers who are learning imaginitive play and are learning from what their parents are doing are labeled as 3 and over. As I mentioned in another review after purchasing the Hape kitchen these toys are labeled 3 plus, but my 19 month old is making full, safe use of them. A yolk, not large enough to swallow, broke off an egg white from the kitchen set and she said 'uh-oh' and promptly handed it over. Then you reinforce it with 'good job, thank you for showing me it is broken'. I mean, there is no reason why these realistic vinyl, SAFE and to her, the world's best toy right now should be for 3 plus. We learn colors, counting, veggie names, she sorts, she puts them in her shopping cart, she gives them to grammie, I mean, if she could go to bed with them she would.

As mentioned by previous reviewers, this product is tops! Not only does it look like the real thing, it is made out of sturdy plastic with a nice matte finish, which is unlikely to chip off (like sometimes occurs with wooden Melissa & Doug products). My son just loved these veggies and the fruit set that we bought as well. Highly recommended!

I got these for my daughter (and the fruits too) and I could not be happier. They are of great quality and so realistic it's amazing. I can see her playing with these for years to come. I highly recommend buying the Melissa and Doug products - I've yet to be disappointed.

I was very excited to see so many good reviews for Mellisa & Doug Veggies when I ordered the set. It was a big disappointment when I received the package yesterday. Yes, it looked real, however, the plastic felt very thin and even worse, the chemical smell was so strong that I dared not let my baby play with it. Anybody else have the same issue recently? Anyway, I will return the product because I don't feel it's safe for baby to play.

We got the Melissa and Doug vegies and fruit for my little girl's play kitchen and we have been really pleased with them. The food is really realistic and is the right size for the food it is protraying. The potato even feels like a potato! My daughter loves these foods and really feels like she is cooking when she plays with them. Great product!

Great gift in a time of lead laced toys for kids. Very educational and safe.

These are so realistic and they are true to size. They're also very sturdy. I think some people complained about the smell and even my 3 1/2 year old commented on how they smelled like bleach. But we always wash or wipe our toys down before we use them so I haven't really had a problem with the smell since. I have to say my daughter doesn't really play with them unless she's playing with someone. But I think they are so cool because they don't look cheap and they look like the real thing. I would definitely recommend these!

I looked and looked for play food that was real looking and durable. Most of the stuff you find in stores is tiny and cheap, but these foods are very life-like and made from a very durable plastic. The plastic does not have a strong awful odor like a lot of others I've looked at. They are also the same size as the real vegetables. The kids love them and I do too! GREAT VALUE!

My daughter loves these and keeps trying to peal the bananna. The only problem is that the apple and the tomato look a lot alike and she gets them confused. Thease are VERY realistic looking and slightly smaller than life-size. The tomato got a dent when dropped - very realistic!
