4.0 out of 5 stars My 10 month old loves these magnets!
These are probably my daughters favorite toys right now. She carries the magnets all around the house and has figured out how to put them back on the fridge (or anything magnetic). Unfortunately she is still in the "chew everything" stage, so the paper stickers are not holding up as well as they would if she wasn't eating them. I didn't realize that wooden magnets...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for toddlers learning about animals
My daughter is one and loves animals and magnets, but these don't hold her attention for very long. I like them for teaching her about animals and animal sounds, but she won't play with them on her own. They are also too thin for her to easily take off the refrigerator and put them back on.
I also bought the LeapFrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set, and that's...

Unfortunately she is still in the "chew everything" stage, so the paper stickers are not holding up as well as they would if she wasn't eating them. I didn't realize that wooden magnets would have sticker pictures on them - I thought they would be painted - this is my only complaint.

I also bought the LeapFrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set, and that's much better for keeping her entertained on her own. (The pieces are chunkier and have optional sounds and music).
Overall, good images of animals but probably good for kids who are a little older.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but the "storage box" doesn't have a lid!, October 3, 2007

My 15 month old really loves these magnets. However- it says that they are included in a storage box- but it doesn't have a lid! It's just a wooden box with plastic wrap over the top! I was hoping I could put them away and pull them out on rainy days... but I guess I am going to have to just leave them on the fridge. Oh well- still cute!

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware: magnets are made of paper over wood, August 24, 2009

These magnets are very cute - bright colors and I love that the materials are non-toxic. The animal illustrations are really nice. However, I was expecting magnets made of wood. The core is wood, but the face is paper, which comes off. Disappointing. Also, the wooden box they come in has no lid, so is pretty useless for storage.

I was very excited about buying these. My son loves magnets and I thought this would be a great way to teach him about animals. They are great looking BUT I wish they were more heavy duty. They are essentially a magnetic backing with a layer of wood in the middle. On top of that is a paper picture and a thin laminated plastic layer on top. Not good for kids who like to put things in their mouths. In a matter of moments without much effort at all he had chewed off the turtles face. Now I find myself trying to keep them away from him which no fun for him or me :(

3.0 out of 5 stars Truly not for small kids, April 16, 2009

I got this, even though the reviews were not favorable for small kids. I'd had to put it up until they are older b/c the other reviewers weren't kidding the top "stickers" come off in a hot second. One trip into the mouth and the sticker was immediately coming off. They also are so skinny that the end up under the fridge as soon as they come off. I'll try these again in a year or so when my kids understand not to put them in their mouths.

First, our 15 month old daughter has enjoyed playing with these for the day she's had them. That said, she's already managed to completely remove and destroy 90% of the lion picture from the magnet. They're cheap, weakly stuck on stickers on top of fairly solid wood/magnet bases. Disappointing.

these magnets are great for small hands. regular refrigerator magnets are flat and hard to pull off or move around. the animals are very realistic and I love that there are a wide variety (farm, house pets, jungle and desert)

I can't believe we got all these beautiful magnets for such a great price. My child loved putting them on the refrigerator and naming the animals. So much more fun than passive electronic toys. Grandparents, I believe that toddlers & parents alike would be thrilled with this as a gift.

I bought these magnets for my two older girls (who are now 6 and 5) about two years ago. They love them still! Once again Melissa and Doug have come up with a totally cute way to help kids learn about animals, and yet still be a very durable and safe toy. The prices are a little more than for the average toy, but you know that you are getting total quality, and to me that's worth it! The only problems we have ever had with these, is that my girls tended to "accidentally" lose them under the fridge sometimes. The magnetic backs are also very strong. We've been able to hold up multiple school papers and such without any problems. I was sitting for a friend a week ago, and her 10 month old boy loved them! He wanted to put all of them in his mouth. But it was great because most of them are too big to be a choking hazard or concern, and he could pull them off of the fridge and put them back on by himself without any problem. And I also knew that the magnet part covered the entire wood piece. (which is wonderful when you are watching someone else's kid). I took away the little duck, and fish and turtle (just in case though as the size of those three kinda made his mom a little wary.) He loved them so much, that I've already ordered a box for him for his 1st birthday! That way he can have his own set at his house too. I'm also considering buying the dinosaur ones next!
