I bought this a couple of days ago and just put it together. The holes were a nightmare. Half of them did not line up causing the birdhouse to look like it had been put together by more 4 year old. Nice idea but to cheap. I hope these guys guys dont take over ikea.

We purchased this for our very artistic 4 year old for her birthday and she loved it. We let her paint it but we had to put all the pieces together. The only complaint is that the pre-drilled holes are not aligned very well so you need a little muscle to get the screws in. Otherwise a great project that results in a great deal of self-pride for a job well done. The price is a great deal for what you get. We hope the birds love it too!

The "predrilled" holes are a nightmare, I ended up redrilling most of them. Either the bottom piece is too small, or I screwed up by trying to follow their drill pattern, but it does not match up with the sides. My 7 and 8 year olds should have been able to complete this on their own, but they couldn't. 3 out of 4 colors of the included paint were dried up & needed to be replaced.

It is a cute bird house for kids to build.
It is easy, yes a 5 yr old will need help, but it is fun to do it together!!

The holes do not align properly, so be prepared to drill them yourself. There are half-inch gaps between the bottom of the birdhouse and the sides, so it is pointless to fill the house with bird seed as it will fall through the gaps.

As my son was preparing to paint, all of the bristles came out of the paint brush!

Consumers should rethink this purchase.

This was so nice and easy for the kids to put together and then paint them selves. They cannot wait to hang it outside and watch a bird make it a home!

Nice bird house but the holes need to be lined up better. Had to redrill some of the holes so they would line up before the bird house could be built.

We just put this together (april 2011) and didn't have any of the problems that others mentioned with the wholes lining up. I ordered it after reading it bc the one time I did have problems with a Melissa and Doug product, I called their customer service and they immediately shipped me a brand new one. So I figured we had nothing to loose.

Birdhouse came and our 3 year old was ESTATIC to put it together. We intentionally put the front piece on backwards so that the whole thing was a blank canvas to be painted. Its so cute. I think the birds might be afaid of the color splashed all over it, but I'm hoping one of them builds a nest here soon. :)

This is a nice project to do together. Although my daughter who is 6 years did not have the patience for all the screws. Her arm kept getting tired so I did most of the work putting it together. She did paint it but some of the paint was dried up, it's a good thing we had other paint.

My 9 year old daughter had a lot of fun putting this together, and it was a great intro wood project. The only problem was that some of the screw holes didn't line up, so be prepared to deal with that. Otherwise, a really nice low-frustration project, and the child will feel good about what he or she was able to make.
