These are fantastic toddler scissors -- they really do NOT cut hair/skin and seem to cut paper well. The zig-zag ones are a bit more challenging, but my 20 mo. old still likes them even though he ends up saying "blue better."

I bought this plastic scissor set for my 25 month old to start her out on cutting paper. The straight edged pair (blue ones) were so easy to use and it cuts clean lines. The only problem is the zig-zag pair ( red ones), the blades stick together and that makes it extremely difficult for me to cut with let alone my daughter, but it does cut pretty lines once you get it to work!

My 3 yr old wanted to use scissors so I bought these for him. They cut paper very well and so far don't cut anything else. They are especially great because what ever the 3 yr old does the 1.5 yr old wants to do too. I know he can safely explore with these and won't get cut. So far they seem quite sturdy too.

It's true that these don't cut fabric or hair. It's also true that they barely cut paper! And they sure can cut skin and tongues if you're not careful. The zig-zag ones are totally frustrating and not worth it, and the straight bladed ones only cut if I sit there and hold the paper taut for my son-- and he is using them correctly, holding them straight, etc. Even I have trouble using them well. If I have to sit there and assist in every minute of his cutting anyway, I'll just let him use real kid scissors that actually work, so we can both stop being frustrated. A great idea-- I really wanted to like these and the glitter is really cute-- but unfortunately a lemon.

These scissors are definitely safe for little hands, but are frustrating to both parents and children because they don't cut well at all. Work great with play-doh.

I've got a three year old and I was looking for some scissors that really wouldn't cut anything other than paper. Here they are. They do just fine and really are left or right handed. They won't cut hair, clothes, or most yarns. Sure, they'll still cut your books/magazines/bills/what have you. But that isn't really going to be the toddler's fault, is it?

These scissors have no metal blades on them, so I can let my son play with them without worrying about him cutting himself. That is a big plus. However, the scissors really don't cut well, so they don't keep his interest for very long. A big downside.

these work about as well as one might expect for plastic scissors. A bit finicky, but somewhat necessary for three-year-olds who want to try cutting clothing or their siblings.

However, I was expecting two straight-edged pair for my twins, but turns out one pair is zigzag. Should have read the description. I'm going to try a different brand anyway to see if anyone really makes good plastic scissors (not optimistic.)

The four star review is just based on the cutting ability of the scissors themselves, which is merely ok.

--- update ---

also bought a pair of Fiskars 94057097J Pre-School Plastic Blade Scissors, which are not really much better.

I think semi-supervised cutting with normal metal-bladed preschool scissors might be best for teaching kids to cut (paper).

plastic scissors really are just toys...
