5.0 out of 5 stars Great puzzle for preschooler, November 22, 2007

My 3-year-old and I really like working on this puzzle together. (She can't do it alone. I expect a 4-year-old could. The recommended 6-9 age seems too old.) I think the size of a floor puzzle gives her more of a sense of accomplishment than a standard sized puzzle.

The pieces link nicely so that you get a bit of the next person as you go around the circle. (The last piece of the American boy links into the Chinese girl so you know which character to look for next.)

The pictures of kids from other countries gives a segue to the concept of people from other parts of the world. And they list the country names, so you don't have to feel like an idiot. ;)

Melissa & Doug never let me down. This is another good, quality toy.

All Melissa & Doug puzzles are wonderful and fun for children (and adults) to do, but this puzzle is extra special. For starters it is a giant circle-shape. Also, the theme of Children Around the World is very appealing, especially to my 6 1/2 yr old grandson who has been learning about this topic in school. After we have finished the puzzle each time, we talk about the "kids from other countries" and we pick our favorite ones. Each time we have done the puzzle we have discussed the children and to me this is an extra fun thing. Even my 4 yr old grandson likes it, but his interest in discussing the children depicted is more limited. This puzzle is a must for puzzle-doing families!

I bought this for my 3 year old grandson who loves puzzles. This one has a duel purpose, its a great puzzle and it teaches him the world. He has put it together many times since I gave it to him.

Our 3 1/2 year old daughter loves this puzzle. It's a nice large size with large pieces that fit together easily. This adds to our daughter's sense of accomplishment, and she enjoys the new challenge of a large round puzzle. Now she puts it together by herself and when she's done, we then discuss the different cultures of the children holding hands. This really adds more value and more time spent using this verses other puzzles.

I bought this puzzle for my pre-K/Kindergarten Sunday School class (kids range in age from older 4's to very young 6's). The kids LOVE it: what a great investment! It is big, durable, and beautifully designed, especially for the price. The circle shape is great: it makes it easy for small groups of kids to work on it at the same time without anyone feeling like they're looking at it upside down. The novelty of a round puzzle also adds some extra interest for kids who do puzzles a lot. As a previous commenter mentioned, the pieces are cleverly laid out so that each figure leads into the next. The flags and country names are also a big help!

Besides being very cute and charming, the picture has a lot of educational value, without being heavy-handed. The kids like looking for the represented countries on a map when they're finished, and enjoy talking about the different places. Since I'm using this in a church setting, I also like to talk to the kids about how this can help them remember that God is with people all over the world, and loves them all. Finally, I like that the picture seems to encourage a positive attitude toward diversity, showing people from around the globe as potential friends. All in all, great buy!

I bought this for my cousin's daughter (she's 3). My cousin is an anthropologist turned school-teacher, so she's all about cultural awareness and enrichment activities. They love doing this puzzle together - its a bonding experience, and also educationally stimulating. I'd recommend it - even if you aren't an anthropologist/teacher/super-mom, I bet you'd have a good time with your kids!

My four year old grandson was beside himself, when he opened this floor puzzle and two other Melissa and Doug Floor Puzzles, at our Christmas gathering. They were definitly a hit.

It is a pleasure to divert my granddaughter's attention from yellow, orange and red plastic objects to this calming and educational-as-an-adult-makes it puzzle! I liked it enough to buy the fire engine puzzle twice; once for each of my grandsons! When they are completed, have an older child sketch what he or she sees for extended interest.

My daughter really enjoys this puzzle, which we gave her for her 3rd birthday. It's exciting to hear her tell us all the countries she wants to visit someday.
