Great quality checker board game by Melissa and Doug. Leather strap holds pieces. The only suggestion I would make to improve this toy is make the red pieces a little brighter (very dark; sometimes hard to differentiate the red and black pieces).

Liked the storage idea- got it for a child learning to play checkers. VERY difficult to distinguish between the red and black checkers, believe it or not!! The red is a VERY dark red- Good for a decorative wall hanging, not so great for playing with.

Overall this is a nice checker board set. My red colored checkers are very dark and hard to tell from the black checkers. I bought paint to add some "real" red color so we could tell the difference. It is easy to thread the checker back onto the rope. However, we never do b/c it takes too much time. Also the board does not fold- so it is large if you want to store away. I use the checker board as a "tray" and rest it on the ottoman near my two reading chair. It looks beautiful and prompts us to play more often.

This is an excellent quality checker board. I do have to agree with other customers, however. The red checkers are much too dark. I took very-fine sanding pager and sanded just enough black off of them to make them look very red, up with an antiqued, worn look.

It was a gift for my husband and he was so pleased!

This checker board is well made and looks great. I like the size of the board and the feel of the checkers.

We love checkers and wanted a set we could use outside on the backyard picnic table. When it gets windy, the cardboard ones just blow away. This set is good for that purpose. But, it is REALLY heavy and very large. My 4 year old daughter has twice screamed because her fingers were under the board when it landed and they got kind of smashed. (Nothing serious but it does make her hesitate to want to play, which is a bummer.)

Also, as said in other reviews on Amazon, the red pieces and the black pieces are almost the same... very dark! Two solutions we have found: 1) buy a cheapo set of plastic checkers to use... you can find sets on Amazon for under five dollars! 2) gently sand the red pieces with a very fine grain sandpaper. The black wash on them comes off easily to reveal a nice bright red.

That said, we are checkers obsessed and one nice thing about this set is that you can hang it on the wall like art work. Would be great for a summer beach house or winter ski cabin.

i purchased this to use when the family goes camping. very sturdy and just plain gorgeous. the boys love playing checkers and this will hang perfectly on the wall in the rv.

The quality of the board and pieces are excellent. The red pieces are very red and the black is black. The pieces king perfectly. This is an excellent set.

This is the best board I have found. Durable, solid, beautiful! But, as stated by another reviewer, the red chips are way too dark. But we just used some sandpaper to sand each one and they turned from a dark red to a medium red.

If you are looking for a Checker Set that is classy enough for an adult, this is the one. The only negative is the red pieces are too dark. Take a very fine sandpaper and go over them lightly. Takes 5 minutes and they are very red!

I gave this as a gift to a 50 year old and he LOVED it. Excellent contruction and heirloom quality. Combine that with the great price and you have something that will pass down to your grandchildren.
