I was so excited to see this Wooden Cutting Fruit Crate because my older daughter and niece have the old Cutting Food Box but since we are gluten free the fruit seemed like a nice addition for the little kids. Unfortunately it is not nearly the same quality. The pieces don't seem to fit together as snuggly and the velcro isn't as strong so it is more as if the fruit falls apart instead of the cutting sensation the first set has. Also the wooden food itself doesn't feel as substantial/heavy and it doesn't come in a box with a lid like the older set. I don't know if the quality of the Cutting food box has gone down as well or if it is just this set, but I am pretty disappointed.

We have a lot of Melissa and Doug toys. The cutting food set is my daughter's favorite toy so I bought this set to go along with it. We just brought it home from store and I am so disappointed! Some of the velcro pieces are sunken into the wooden holes and so they barely "stick" together. The cantelope holds together by just a few strings. One of the velcro pieces on the orange is a piece from the end or side of a roll? It only has velcro on half of the piece, the rest is just material. We're so used to such high quality from Melissa and Doug that it really surprises me! I'll take it back and try again. I hope this isn't a reflection on a decrease in quality from our favorite toy brand.

I use this product for my own children and for my daycare. It is one of their favorite toys. They love to cut the food and stick it back together. This toy is not only a fun toy to play with, but teaches mathematic concepts (fractions). My only complaint is that the velcro is not quite as "sticky" as it could be.

I purchased this toy for my 22 month old son and he loves it! We count the pieces, name the fruit and learn to share. He's now 28 months and still enjoys this toy very much. I guess it makes him feel big that he's cutting his own fruit :) Fabulous toy!

I love Melissa and Doug toys and I have had a great experience once before with customer service. My 2 year old loves this toy, but right from the start the paint started chipping off the fruit. It bubbles up and then just comes off. My 10 month old puts everything in his mouth and it worries me. I would send it back and I'm sure the company would replace it, but I am doubtful that it would be any different since there's no reason why it happened in the first place. My sister said her kids have the same set and it happened to their fruit too. My kids love the toy so I'm still letting them play with it under supervision. I'm just disappointed that this is not up to the usual quality of Melissa & Doug toys.

I'm not sure why everyone is rating the quality so high. My daughter played with this set for one day and a LOT of the paint is chipping off; no, she's not playing violently.

There also isn't much detail on the outside of the fruit, only the inside has detail making, for example, the "orange" look like an orange ball when the 2 halves are velcroed together.

It is educational, however. Love the velcro connectors.

Some of the set was OK, but many of the images on the inside are off center and look very poor. For some reason the Banana and the Melon are both unfinished wood and the paint feels like it is coming off every time we touch it. It just doesn't seem safe for our daughter, and of course the unfinished ones are the ones she tries to put in her mouth. Also, the knife is unfinished which makes no sense because there is a finish on all the other pieces (except the Banana and Melon).

I would love to give this product 5 stars, but I can't when the Banana, Melon, and knife were unfinished, and 4 of the images weren't correctly centered on the fruit cutout.

Great idea, just very poor execution.

I really like this idea. Makes my baby feel like such a big boy to chop up fruit like mommy!
It's a little advanced for him, he is pretty smart, but only 18 months, but with mommys help he really enjoys cutting it and using a 'knife'. Only reason it's hard for him is lining the fruit up when the Velcro sticks, and angling the knife so it fits the slit it creates. So better once kid can handle a slightly more advanced puzzle, but still good to train and enjoyable for younger kids with a little help.

Only reason I give it a 4 star instead of 5 is that the cantaloupe is really hard to put back together. I absolutely have to help on that as it only fits one way for all 4 pieces. Slightly frustrating. Overall, really well made, cute container, and my son loves cutting up his fruit with mommy. =)
