Great puzzles that are well made and very educational.

I like that the number and letter puzzles have pictures to correspond to them underneath their shapes, and that the fish colors can be mixed or matched.

With promises of all-wood construction, why do the tops of these puzzle pieces have colored paper glued onto them instead of paint directly applied to the wood? I love Melissa and Doug products. HOWEVER, do not let your child put one of the puzzle pieces in his or her mouth b/c the colored portion of the piece will quickly wear away.

My daughter just turned two and through the use of these puzzles and our encouragement, she can recognize all the letters and numbers and will bring them to us and tell us "it's a 'y' mama." We're working now, on counting the items underneath each number and doing "A for Apple". She's having so much fun and learning so much all at the same time.

I'd recommend any puzzles by Melissa and Doug. Our son loves them. He has mastered them all. We own over 20 puzzles like this, and he just has a blast with them. He just turned 2.

The fish and number puzzles are good. The letters puzzle is horrible. The pieces aren't in the shape of the letter. Also, the board has odd pictures for the letter. My son has no idea where the letters go....he can't match the letter with the board, and the board cut outs aren't in the shape of the letters. Awful letter puzzle.

I like the bright colors of these puzzles since it catches my daughters attention. But the alphabet puzzle is not very good. Most of the "puzzle pieces" are just square or round, not cut out around the shape of the letter, so for younger ones who don't know their alphabet yet, it is frustrating for her to figure out where the pieces go. The fish puzzle is pretty worthless. They are all the same shape and size, so they are interchangeable, which seems to defeat the purpose of teaching colors. But at least it's easy, which is nice when the alphabet one gets too frustrating. Overall, you get what you pay for. Good cheap cheap toy.

This toy had pieces where the letters weren't even glued onto the backing. For example, the "X" still had a white circle where the peg was supposed to be put through. Instead, the letter was floating around in the packaging. Very disappointed in this product.

I bought this puzzle set for my 2 1/2 year old. The quality is excellent and daughter has enjoyed this toy since day one. I would definitely recommend this. A great way to start learning the alphabet and numbers.

I have one problem with this puzzle set: the color fish puzzle was put together incorrectly in the factory so that I got 2 yellow-tailed fish and no orange-tailed fish. So, my 2 year old daughter finishes putting most of the tails on the correct colored fish but then has to think about what she will do with the orange fish on the board and the yellow tail in her hand. She has decided the best thing to do is to remove the yellow tail from the yellow fish that she placed there previously, and replace it with the yellow tail in her hand. Then she takes THAT yellow tail and begrudgingly places it on the orange (ie: the wrong) fish. Maybe it is teaching her that the world isn't perfect and sometimes you need to make compromises (as in, placing a yellow tail on an orange fish). If that was the educational goal of this puzzle, then the manufacturers should have labelled it age-appropriate for adults as well.

Overall, I still like this puzzle set and my daughter has fun with it.
