I got this puzzle-in-box set and the Vehicles In a Box set, and my son likes them both. The construction vehicle pictures really delight him. He can work harder puzzles than these, but he enjoys these for those times when he wants less thinking and quick results.

Each of the completed puzzles measures only about 5X7 inches.

If you buy more than one of these boxed sets, here's a heads-up. Each set uses the same four shapes, stamped in red, on the backs of the four puzzles. This makes sorting harder when two sets get mixed together. We added a black mark to the backs of one set to make it different.

Also, the two sets that I bought were cut identically, so that the pieces are interchangeable between puzzle sets. For example, both puzzles stamped with circles on the backs have the same exact shaped pieces.

The pieces are like a laminate material and are very, very durable- they've been stepped on, spilled on, and thrown. The connections haven't broken or even chipped, and are so sturdy that the puzzle can be done on carpet. Each puzzle is marked with a symbol on the back (circle, square, triangle, diamond) so you know which puzzle is which; now that my son is four, he loves mixing up all the pieces and then puts the puzzles together. The box is also very sturdy, and is seperated into four spaces. It has sliding cover on which you can do the puzzles. The top of the box doesn't have the pictures on them, but that never posed a problem. An excellent toy- I plan on giving the dino set to my nephew this year.

My near 3yo son loves doing these four puzzles over and over again. He needs a little help sometimes but prefers to do it on his own. The pictures are very nice and it's a great jigsaw puzzle for preschoolers. It's a good first puzzle, but also difficult enough to enjoy for a while. This set is a great value!

Remember to read all about the product details before purchasing. I was disappointed when these puzzles arrived and are very small as compared to other Melissa & Doug puzzles that are sold separately.

The manufacturer suggests an age range of 3 years and up, but I gave my son these puzzles when he was 22 months old and he figured them out pretty quickly. Two months later, he's still fascinated by them. He now has the vehicle puzzle set and the construction puzzle set and spends long periods of time every day assembling and then re-jumbling them.

There are many levels of play possible with these puzzles. At first, I put the puzzles together while he watched. Soon, he was putting one puzzle together, after I'd separated the pieces of only that one puzzle out for him. Then he started breaking up all four 12-piece puzzles, jumbling up all 48 total pieces and assembling them again. Then he became fascinated with putting the puzzle pieces away in their little compartments. He's so proud of mastering these skills that he shows them off to every visitor. And now that he's memorized the puzzles, he puts them together as fast as I can!

Even if you think jigsaw puzzles might be a little hard for your toddler, I encourage you to try these. The feeling confidence the little ones get from understanding and mastering them is a great boost for them -- and their parents!

Bought this for my 4 year old grandson and he loves it. He is a heavy equipment fan but he also is fond of puzzles so this combined the two and made for a good birthday present. 4 seperate puzzles and their own seperate storage box with 4 compartments, plus each puzzle is marked on the back with symbols such as stars, squares, diamonds etc. this way you can seperate them when they get mixed without having to put the whole puzzle together. GOOD IDEA!

I have been looking for 10-20 jigsaw puzzles for my 2-year-old and thought we'd give these a try. I love the box for storage with the lid on which the puzzle can be worked; however, the pieces are lightweight wood and don't fit together and come apart smoothly or easily. I prefer jigsaw puzzles made out of heavy cardboard for this reason. I don't regret the purchase, but probably won't buy more sets like this.

My son loves the Melissa and Doug puzzles in a box. He also loves construction vehicles so this is his favorite! with only 12 pieces per puzzle, he gets the sense of accomplishment quickly and moves on to the next puzzle. He's now 3 y/o but he's had another puzzles in a box since he was 2 and loved it then.

I thought this was bigger, but I really didn't read all the information about them. It is a really good set for kids that know puzzles probably around 4, because the pieces are pretty small but my 2 year old loves puzzles this one included. All in all a pretty good buy.

I have two young boys and have been buying Melissa and Doug toys for 3 1/2 years now. MD clearly understand what kinds of things children enjoy, and I love the variety of items they offer. That being said, I am sick and tired of dealing with the roughness of the wood on many of their puzzles.

Just the other day, I got a sharp jab in my finger from a protruding sliver of wood when reaching inside this box. On two previous occasions, my older son and I each got a splinter from shards of wood that escaped from either this box or one of the other two puzzle box sets we have from MD.

If it were just this series of puzzles from MD, I'd say ok, let's stick to other MD puzzles, but it's ALL of their wood puzzles, including the knob puzzles for babies. I am constantly finding little shards of wood on the floor and having to scour the rooms for any additional ones to protect my kids.

I called MD to complain about this problem, specifically in relation to their Beep Beep puzzle, which has caused me grief from day one. The rep said she'd never heard any complaints about rough wood. This is surprising given the number of reviews for MD puzzles that mention this. I was sent a similar puzzle that is not made out of wood but rather cardboard (Traffic Jam, 2 x 3 ft) as a free replacement. There is no problem with the cardboard puzzle, but I'm still disturbed that there are all of these conceptually wonderful puzzles about which I have to worry because MD just doesn't finish off the wood.

We have another wooden knob puzzle from Puzzibilties that does not have this same problem, so clearly, creating a smooth finish on wood is possible!
