My daughter (3 years old) got this for her birthday. It was a big hit! All the kids loved playing with it. Even some of the parents were trying it out.

The cones are made of wood--so they're heavy and if you drop it on your toes, watch out! But the ice cream itself is a lightweight, very durable plastic.

I would highly recommend this product to any kids. I'm thinking of purchasing a second set just for when friends come over, that way they can each have a cone!

One thing I would like to recommend to the Melissa and Doug company, is for them to come out with a "Ice cream parlour 2" set. Maybe some more ice cream scoop flavors (orange sherbet, berry swirl, etc) or just extra cones. Even just a set of extra ice cream would be nice. Overall, it's a great set. Very good quality, as is all the Melissa & Doug toys we've bought. Your kids will love it!

i bought this as a two-part gift for my 2yo niece -- she, as well as the other kids at the birthday party -- loved it. they're super cute and durable, seeing as how they're made out of wood and hard plastic. the really cute part was that they have light magnetic circles that help keep them on top of the wood cone foundation. i'm definitely a lover of melissa and doug products, and this one is truly a great one. if your kid loves ice cream, cooking, or playing in a little kitchen, i'd recommend this in a heartbeat.

We saw this product at a conference and the kids all loved it. We got it for my 4 y.o. birthday and everyone always plays with it when they come over. Even my 14 y.o. has been known to make a cone or two.

This product is being used by more than 50 children in a child care center. They love it! The magnets are strong and the piecies are durable enough to survive all these little hands. This product gets two thumbs up.

I love the Melissa and Doug products. To me they are the kind of toys you hang on to and pass on to the next generation...and yes, I think they'll last that long. I have always preferred the wood to plastic--reminiscent of "the olden days"--but with the added ingenuity of the magnets and velcro---Play and creating is so much fun...for my three year old, and as you can tell--me too. Even her teenage sisters have been caught playing (which is a good thing when there is such a huge age-difference...brings them together!). We're huge ice-cream fans and well, this is just the greatest! The magnetic scoop works amazing and we love playing "ice cream shop" --Make mine a 4-dip please! The box they come in is wood...and works well for storing. It's a keeper! Sorry nieces, I don't think I can pass this on when my little one is done.

I have bought a variety of Melissa and Doug toys (dress up clothes, hopscotch, toy food and pantry items) but this by far is our house favorite. Before we got this my children were putting toy balls in cups and pretending those were ice cream; now they are excited to have the 'real' thing. You can stack the ice cream all on one. The scoops are fantastic and work great. The kids just love 'scooping' and pretend eating and then doing it all over again. My children are 1 and 3 yrs old.

i wasn't fully expecting the tops to be plastic and magnetic, but it does make more sense than the velcro that works well with the other types of food toys. i loved the fact that it came with two cones and two scoops since i got it for my two boys to play with. that way it's fair. i think the only downside is the box isn't as sturdy as the other food boxes (the dividers are thick cardboard instead of wood) so i know at some point my boys with destroy it. i also am trying my best to keep the scoops from getting broken since they are also plastic. another con is that melissa and doug has started getting their toys manufactured in china, which is a real shame. i know it cuts costs for them, but one of the reasons i like their toys is the fact that they are wooden, as opposed to plastics (normally) and used to be US made. but overall i can't say i'm disappointed in the toy overall (and my boys certainly love it) and will most likely continue to purchase melissa and doug toys, especially since we have the corner kitchen and many food accessories already that my boys absolutely LOVE! (they are 4 and 2.5 and i have another boy on the way that i'm sure will get much use out of them)

My kids, 2 and 4, love this play set. They have played with it nearly every day for a year and the novelty has not worn off. It is simple, so it will not provide hours of play as a stand alone product, but when combined with other Melissa and Doug play food sets the possibilities are endless! It comes in a sturdy wooden box and the individual pieces have proven to be indestructable.

I bought this pretend ice cream set for my 3 children (ages 5,4 and 3). Like all of our other Melissa and Doug kitchen items, they love it! They spend hours in their kitchen now. The set it adorable, magnetic so that the ice cream sticks to the scoop until you press the button, and then sticks to the cone. The set is very durable, which is a good thing, as it is getting lots of use. So far, it has been the favorite toy for all of their little friends who come to visit, and I intend to buy sets as Christmas gifts for all of the nieces and nephews this year.

He absolutely loved it from the second he saw it in the box. Great set, helps to teach hand-eye coordination, balancing, and other motor skills. All of the pieces are very sturdy. Magnets that hold ice cream to scoops, cones, and each other are well-concealed inside of the parts and are strong enough to hold the pieces together but also require the toddler to keep the cone somewhat upright to keep them stacked. That's a great feature, whether it was intended or not.
