5.0 out of 5 stars Melissa and Doug Rule!
We love the Melissa and Doug puzzles, so when my 4 year old daughter received the calendar for X-Mas, we were thrilled. We do "Calendar" every day. We bought this one for another little 4 year old as well. My only suggestion, put the calendar in a place that your child cannot reach it without help. There are ALOT of pieces that you don't want to lose.

3.0 out of 5 stars small pieces
The magnatic pieces are very small. Would be better if larger. Young children can handle larger pieces so much easier and safer. These pieces are way too small. Will probably get lost very easily. Wished I would have made a poster board-laminated or clear contact paper, with dry erase pens-would have been more hands on and imaginative for child.

I definitely think this is a cute toy but I have some issues. I like the different magnetic pieces that indicate different daily events....for example "go to the dentist" or "sunny day". My problem is that you can go to the dentist ON a sunny day. The spaces for each day are a little too small so there's not room to put more than one event. So when my son went to the library and the doctor on the same day and it was raining outside, we could only fit 2 things and even the 2 things didn't fit well. They hung over into other spaces.
The other issue is that the board is made up of 2 separate pieces. A top piece is the calendar and the bottom piece is just like the calendar but with no writing...it's just blank to hold all the extra magnets. I wish it was the other way because the calendar is a little too high up for my child to see it great but if it were down any lower, my younger son would be able to grab the pieces off and get them in his mouth.
The idea is great. The pieces are cute. I just wish these issues had been addressed.

Good product, typical M&D product which is my favorite choice for my children. The magnets are nice and I'm trying to figure out how to get more of the same (for example weekly music lessons). The squares are also pretty small so if two occasions were on the same day (first day of spring and your child's birthday) you would have to be creative. Magnets for parents and siblings should be included rather than obscure holidays.

My 4 year old loves it and is quickly learning the concepts of a calendar. No complaints here...

Other wise concept if very good and educational.

My son is 4.5 years old and is learning his days/weeks/months/years. This is the one item that is really helpful to get this done. He has a lot of fun picking the squares for the events during the week. Overall a very affordable and effective way.

Our family loves Melissa and Doug products and this one is no exception. Well thought out with magnets for every occasion. Our son feels like such a big guy when he counts out the days until something "special" on his calendar. And it's very easy to customize these (we've printed out small thumbnails of his grandparents) using double sided tape to stick on a couple of the magnets that we just don't need (one blank one is included). I can see us using this for years to come. Great product!

I just received this and I am delighted that the year tiles have been updated. No old tiles as some of the other posters complained about :)

This calendar has many preprinted holidays and generic activities. My son loves arranging it and looking at it to see what the plan is for that day. There is also a dry erase board where he can write messages or memos. I would highly recommend this product.

I love Melissa & Doug products and will continue to order from their brand. However, I cannot recommend this calendar, because the pieces are too small. Also, the calendar starts with the year 2007 and ends with the year 2011. This product appears to be outdated. My #1 concern about this calendar is safety...too many small pieces. Sorry, I cannot recommend this product.

My daughter just turned 3 and I thought this would be a great tool to help her learn about days of the weeks, months, etc. We have really enjoyed using it so far.

Each day, she asks if we can "do the calendar". First, we look outside and determine whether it is sunny, cloudy, rainy or snowy and we place the coordinating magnet on that day. Then we look for another magnet that matches up with what we are doing that day (i.e. visiting relatives, go to the doctor, play with relatives, etc.)

While I like trying to find two magnets for each day, it is actually hard to fit two into one of the squares on the calendar. So I wish that the size could be changed to accommodate at least two of the magnets.

The set came with one blank magnet but I wish there were a few more so that we could create a few magnets with our own activities on them. There are a lot of magnets that we will never use or only use once throughout the year (i.e. holidays)so I might just put some paper over some of those with some of our favorite activities on them so we can get more use out of them.

Overall I think it is a worthwhile product for teaching the basic concepts of days, weeks, months, etc.
