Bought some other M&D animal magnets for my daughter and wanted to buy a "dress up" set. Very disappointed in the options for girls. There are so many different girl versions but the only options are: ballerina, princess and bride. Really? Wow, great. Now my daughter can aspire to wear dresses. Exciting. I'm not totally apposed to these options but where are the doctor, artist, pilot and soccer player? Meanwhile the boy magnet set includes: superhero, pirate, fire fighter, police officer and knight. I'd like my daughter to see there are more options for her.

First, this toy says it's for children 3 years and older and it's true. There are some REALLY TINY PARTS in this set. See those little feet on the figures? There's teeny tiny magnetic shoes for each of those teeny tiny feet. My daughter is two and she owns tons of toys for older ages and is fine with them, but this set, I won't let her have a large portion of the little magnetic pieces for fear they will be mistaken for a raisin, or even eaten by one of our dogs.

The magnets aren't as strong as I would have expected, but they do okay. You can't layer clothes, and if you prop up the doll in the pink stand, the clothes sometimes slide down the body a bit. However the pieces are well formed, nice quality, rich colors. My daughter calls them "bodies" and likes putting on and taking off their clothes (and playing with the clothes on the refrigerator and other metal surfaces).

Like others have said, this box (and most items I have gotten from Melissa & Doug) needs a lid! It's a lovely pink tray for the toy, but without a lid it's pretty pointless.

I am happy that the girls are different ethnicities, and are built like real little girls. The clothes are pretty fun - cute prints, styles that can't be associated with a certain decade and are fun and not sexy or mature.

Amazon was having 50% off Melissa & Doug toys near Christmas and I bought this on a whim. If I could do it again, I don't think I would buy this. It doesn't seem as though it was well thought out (teeny tiny pieces, unable to layer, magnets not even as strong as those for M&D wooden magnetic letters).

My 2 year old grand daughter recently broke her leg. It's been hard to find things to keep her busy. I found this toy by accident at Kohls. She loves it! She sat and played for a couple of hours. Her 5 year old brother loved it too. Dolls solidly made. The clothes stay on. She even colored one of the dolls with crayon and it wiped off. 2 snaps for this 5 star toy!!

I really like most Melissa and Doug products. They are usually good quality. But this one smelled like chemicals so badly upon opening that I had to put it in the garage. It took a couple months before the smell mostly wore off.

I've never written a review before - but I was motivated to write one for this "paper doll" set. This is a great toy! We gave it to our 3 year old daughter for Christmas - and it was by far her favorite toy. She is completely engaged with it and will play with it for an hour or so at a time. She is so proud after dressing her dolls. (Of course they usually have mismatched shoes and everything else.) There are a great variety of outfits along with fun accessories. It's also quite durable. Much better than the paper dolls I played with as a kid!

Like many of the other Melissa and Doug toys, this is very durable with sharp colors and simple patterns. Reminiscent of paper dolls without the flimsy paper, these dolls and clothes keep my daughter content and amused and allow her to use her imagination. My pre-school daughter has happily spent a lot of time dressing the dolls and showing us the "pretty girls." The outfits cling as magnets so they are easily put on and off. Don't worry parents, these are not the super-strong magnets that have caused the recalls in many other children's toys. I will warn parents of small children that you may consider removing the shoes and a few other small clothing items before giving the set to your pre-schooler because those pieces could be a choking hazard. But don't hesitate to buy this set. it is wonderful for home or grandma's house.

What I liked:
* ability to play alone or with a friend
* mix and match outfits
* easy to stick on magnets
* Can be kept in wooden box or fit in a 1 gallon ziploc bag
* standing platform for dolls

What I disliked:
* No lid for wooden box
* Some pieces are small (shoes) so be careful for younger kids

This is a great product to use for hand/eye coordination and for use of imagination.

This toy has been fabulous for my daughter to play with for nearly a year now. The durablility has been great and she loves all the outfit changes and the different dolls. The wooden cut outs are beautiful and creative. My daughter is 3.5 and her little 2 year old friend loves playing with it too, in fact, we just bought one for her little friend for Christmas. Great toy!!

My daughter received this toy as a gift for her birthday. I was excited for her to have a toy similar to paper dolls since I enjoyed paper dolls so much as a child. She does seem to enjoy the toy for ten or so minutes but dislikes most of the clothes. From a parents perspective several of the clothing options are to revealing and even my 3 year old comments that "oh no this is too short." In short I would not recommend this product due to the limited clothing choices and modesty issues.

I bought this for my 2 year old daughter. At first she played with it minimally, and wasn't so interested, but children develop skills like these so quickly...just a few short months later she plays with it EVERY day...often more than once a day. It really is among her favorite activities.

Because of the choking hazard warning for kids under 3 I did remove the smaller shoes and hats. I also make sure she plays with it only when I'm with her. (She prefers it that way...she hands me one of the dolls and she dresses the other).

It's so fun how she has favorite outfits she always goes back to, (memory development), has learned to place the items correctly lined up, (motor skills), and chooses various tops and bottoms, (color matching).

The magnets are strong enough to truly hold the clothing in place as dolls stand in their stands.

The choices are many, as far as outfits.

There's no lid, but all the pieces fit easily into the various compartments. It's less than 1" tall laying flat, so it's very easy to slide under a bed, bookcase, whatever to keep it out of the way w/o spilling.

Easily a five star item that will last long enough to keep for HER children to play with..we love Melissa and Doug pretend food for her play kitchen too!
