4.0 out of 5 stars Fun & Educational
I use this product for my own children and for my daycare. It is one of their favorite toys. They love to cut the food and stick it back together. This toy is not only a fun toy to play with, but teaches mathematic concepts (fractions). My only complaint is that the velcro is not quite as "sticky" as it could be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Melissa & Doug Cutting Food Box!
I was so excited to see this Wooden Cutting Fruit Crate because my older daughter and niece have the old Cutting Food Box but since we are gluten free the fruit seemed like a nice addition for the little kids. Unfortunately it is not nearly the same quality. The pieces don't seem to fit together as snuggly and the velcro isn't as strong so it is more as if the fruit...

I was so excited to see this Wooden Cutting Fruit Crate because my older daughter and niece have the old Cutting Food Box but since we are gluten free the fruit seemed like a nice addition for the little kids. Unfortunately it is not nearly the same quality. The pieces don't seem to fit together as snuggly and the velcro isn't as strong so it is more as if the fruit falls apart instead of the cutting sensation the first set has. Also the wooden food itself doesn't feel as substantial/heavy and it doesn't come in a box with a lid like the older set. I don't know if the quality of the Cutting food box has gone down as well or if it is just this set, but I am pretty disappointed.

We have a lot of Melissa and Doug toys. The cutting food set is my daughter's favorite toy so I bought this set to go along with it. We just brought it home from store and I am so disappointed! Some of the velcro pieces are sunken into the wooden holes and so they barely "stick" together. The cantelope holds together by just a few strings. One of the velcro pieces on the orange is a piece from the end or side of a roll? It only has velcro on half of the piece, the rest is just material. We're so used to such high quality from Melissa and Doug that it really surprises me! I'll take it back and try again. I hope this isn't a reflection on a decrease in quality from our favorite toy brand.

This is a great toy, it teaches kids valuable skills while they play. Thay learn about cutting, using hand eye coordination and how to put things back together. It is very durable, it has held up even with all the abuse it takes from my 5 kids.

My son (age 2) loves to "cut" and loves fruit, so this product was a natural choice. He has had it for more than a month and still pulls it out to play daily. I also like that it's more durable than lots of play food so our dog can't chew it up. I plan to get more Melissa and Doug food for him in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Toy for the Toddler, December 8, 2007

This review is from: Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Cutting Fruit Crate (Toy)
Excellent toy for the toddler in your life and a fun one for Mom and Dad to join in. My Grandson just loves using the "knife" to cut the fruit and the crunch it makes as he is cutting just adds to the fun.

My 3-yr-old granddaughter loves to play with her kitchen and she plays with this fruit all the time. The wooden knife that comes with the fruit is easier to use than the one that comes with the vegetables. The one with the vegetables is a little too thick to cut with so she uses another one of her play knifes to cut them. But, the one with the fruit is a little easier to use. She has gotten frustrated trying to get the knife in the slit a couple of times and started banging on the fruit with the knife trying to get it in the slit which left some small dents in the wood, but hasn't seemed to do anything except make the small dents. She's only had them for a few weeks, but we haven't seen any paint chipping or other problems that I've read about. I would buy these again.

I purchased this toy for my 22 month old son and he loves it! We count the pieces, name the fruit and learn to share. He's now 28 months and still enjoys this toy very much. I guess it makes him feel big that he's cutting his own fruit :) Fabulous toy!

I got this for my granddaughter. She started using it around her 2nd birthday. She loved being able to "cut" fruits. In the beginning, I had to put them back together so she could "cut" them up again but now( at 2 1/2 years old) she can put them back together by herself.

My 20 month old loves to cook and this wood toy allows her to play kitchen. I would recommend it to any one with a child that likes to "help" in the kitchen. I prepare dinner and she sits on the floor and chops the fruit. The decorative wood crate is not useful for storage as my daughter likes to take the fruit out and chop. The parts are higher than the crate so you can't stack other toys on top. Not a big deal but I wish I had know before I purchase the item.
