5.0 out of 5 stars Great Train Table for Better Price
My two-year-old daughter was playing with her trains on the dining room floor before we got this table. We were all constantly stepping on pieces, having to redo the track layout, etc. Now she can play for quite a while without wreaking "butt-zilla" havoc by sitting on everything.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent table for the money
As the price indicates, this isn't a high-quality table. But, it serves its purpose. We preferred to spend more money on a nice train set, and save some cash by getting a lower-end table. The pros are that it is very roomy and has a storage drawer which accommodates our 130-piece set. The cons are that it is already showing several scuff marks on the white paint, and it's...

My two-year-old daughter was playing with her trains on the dining room floor before we got this table. We were all constantly stepping on pieces, having to redo the track layout, etc. Now she can play for quite a while without wreaking "butt-zilla" havoc by sitting on everything.

She does sometimes still sit on the table next to the track, but the table is sturdy enough to hold her 30 lbs. just fine. And when she takes the track apart, at least the pieces are enclosed rather than being scattered all over the floor.

No need to buy the brand name (Thomas) tables...this one is so much less expensive and still solid. The drawer is also quite deep and long to store the rest of her train set accessories. We have several Melissa and Doug wooden toys and so far we've had no construction issues with them. With that said, there was one screw through one of the beams that hold the table top up that never really went in to the table edge. Like I said, though, it still holds plenty of weight.

Once she outgrows the train phase I'm sure she will still enjoy using clay, a dollhouse, or something else on it.

Note that it is quite large--about 48" x 32"--so don't get it if you don't have room for it. We chose this one to accomodate her train set. Because it is so large we have it away from the wall so our daughter can walk around it on all sides. As she gets taller/able to reach farther (she's currently about 35"), we'll be able to put the long side up against a wall to save some floor space.

The pros are that it is very roomy and has a storage drawer which accommodates our 130-piece set. The cons are that it is already showing several scuff marks on the white paint, and it's only a month old. It was extremely easy to assemble, and took about 30-45 minutes. Note that it is quite low to the ground. Our two-year-old has to be on his knees to play with it. So, if you're looking for a table that your child can stand at, this one's not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars PLAY PLAY, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Multi-Activity Table (Toy)
Perfect table. Did not want one with a printed surface as I wanted the kids to define the play. It has been used for the Thomas train, puzzles, building with blocks, car racing, base for legos and to jump onto the bean bag chairs. Super easy to put together. Love it!

We bought this table for the Melissa and Doug Train set. There was a table at Target that was $70 and much sturdier, but I couldn't return this table at the store I bought it from sadly.
This table is very flimsy. We assembled it for Christmas and by February it was shakey. My son is two - an average toddler tornado. He loved this train table in the store and we couldn't tear him away from it so we thought it would be great to get him.

The beam that keeps the drawer suspended snapped in the middle of the wood. Every time my son picked up a toy and put it on the table, he would knick the side with the toy and remove paint. The fact that the table is painted white is a very poor choice for kids who will no doubt hit the table with toys. The manufacturer should have just left it a natural wood color with a gloss, but I guess pressboard is not as pretty as white paint. *shrug*

The green planks that serve as the table surface are cheap and thin pressboard. And if you're idea is to buy a train set and use woodglue to keep the train tracks on this table, as was my idea, you're in for a treat. The paint prevents the glue from really bonding. So that elaborate train table you spent hours assembling and glueing will basically get pieces knocked off and no doubt it will be the 1 inch piece that will no doubt get lost and mess up your attempts to reassemble the train set.

I ended up completely taking the train pieces off the green boards and throwing them away. The table's support beams which had broken were re-enforced with new boards I had to install. I replaced the flimsy green boards with a piece of solid birch, half an inch thick. Also, the green boards do not completely fit the table and leave cracks in the edges that all sorts of not fun things get into when you have a two year old. When I replaced the green boards, I also took a sealant and sealed the birch to the table so that nothing was getting caught in the cracks like before.

I would not recommend this table to anyone. The only reason I went thru so much trouble to restore it and fix it was because I'm stubborn and was annoyed at how much I had spent on it, which was close to $150 around Christmas when I bought it, not to mention the $120 on the train set and the $150 spent on buying Thomas trains for it as well. My child is almost 3 now, and still as destructive as ever. Oh also, the green pressboards aren't sealed well at all. My son got a sharpie and used it on his table. I tried to use a magic eraser but the green paint came off with it and looked faded in areas I had used it to remove the sharpie. Now, the birch is sealed properly and no matter what my son does to the table, I can clean it off.

3.0 out of 5 stars adequate, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Multi-Activity Table (Toy)
The table arrived promptly with all parts and the directions included. During the assembly, one of the bolts busted through the composite wood side, which surprised me because I thought the table was made of solid wood. But eventually it was assembled and enjoyed by the grandchildren.

5.0 out of 5 stars Melissa & Doug Train & Activity table, January 18, 2007

I ordered this table for my Grandson for Christmas - He is thrilled with it.
It was very easy to put together, the storage drawer is a plus that most of the tables we looked at did not have. It seems very sturdy, he has climbed onto it to play with his trains with no problems. I was exceptionally happy with the prompt service. I ordered this last minute and had it within 3 days.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, February 28, 2007
This review is from: Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Multi-Activity Table (Toy)
I ordered this table because I already owned the Melissa & Doug trainset. The table is inexpensive compared to the other tables by Kidcraft or other makers. You get what you pay for - because the table is fairly flimsy. It's adequate and does its job, but it's only a little more sturdier than cardboard.

Purchased two of these tables. Assembly was simple. The pieces were machined well and fit together perfectly. The instructions were very detailed and easy to follow. This is a very sturdy and safe table that was designed very well. I like that the drawer can be opened, but not removed. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to purchase a table for their children.

I am very disappointed with this table. First, the sides are only half-wall. A small child can crawl underneath the toy. When you look at the underside, the drawer is exposed, so it is not even suitable for underneath storage. There is only one small drawer where there is ample space for two large drawers. The drawer is only held on by one dowel. One of the supports for the top was stripped, so I cannot secure it. Also, the top is supposed to be reversible but the underneath is just a rough unfinished section. I would not buy recommend this to anyone.

This review is from: Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Multi-Activity Table (Toy)
I bought this table for my 3 year old grandson for Christmas this year. He specifically asked me for a train table (he loves his Thomas trains) so I spent quite a bit of time researching different tables online. Some were really expensive (the Thomas ones were the most $$), others were really cheap. This table was right in the middle price-wise, and I like the Melissa and Doug brand. It arrived really fast and I decided to put it together (who wants a box with a picture on it for a Christmas present?) and it wasn't too complicated, it took me about 45 minutes by myself. The instructions were good. I think that it is sturdy enough to last him for years, it is well made and a good value. I covered it with a big xmas bag and my grandson was very excited to see that on Christmas morning. So far it seems to be holding up well in the weeks since he got it, the only problem is that it is in his room, and he thinks he can play with his trains instead of going to sleep at night! My daughter uses a motorcycle cover and tucks it in underneath at night, and that has solved that problem!
