This set comes with two wooden cars. One wooden car came apart on Christmas day. The axel came out and the wheels fell off. No way to fix the car. One wooden car kept flipping sideways and would not make it down the ramp. Matchbox sized cars will also fit, but Thomas trains will not. Wooden cars would sometimes fly off the back sides of the ramps. Kids liked the idea, but we returned our set. Wood ramps were sturdy, but it was VERY difficult to line up the ramps for assembly. As soon as you get one peg in place, the other pegs popped out. Took about 30 minutes to finally put it together. I was dissapointed, as I had looked at many other ramp racers and opted for Melissa &Doug. This product was not reviewed by anyone on Amazon prior to Xmas of 2006, so I hope this review helps other parents.

My two year old son loves this toy! He races the cars over and over and never seems to get tired of watching them race down the track. The cars appear very durable and the track is indestructable. My son also figured out that many (not all) of his Hot Wheels cars also work with this track, which adds to the fun. I would recommend this toy for children 18 months and up.

My 15 month old son loves this toy. He got it for Christmas when he was only 12 months old, and couldn't get the cars "wheels down" on the ramps very reliably. Now he can usually get the cars to go down and knows how to work the release levers. We didn't have any issues with assembly or the quality of the cars. My son chews on them regularly and they have stood up well. I do wish it came with a few more cars though, since he likes to carry them around and they are not always easy to find.

This is a great solid construction like the toys of old. It should have more than two cars that come with it though.

My children (ages 2 and 3) learned how to use the car release mechanism at the top of the toy very quickly, and they will play with the cars for up to 15 minutes at a time. The 2-year old delights in picking up the bottom portion of the ramp to "trap" the cars before they "zoom" off the ramp. So, yes, it's fun!. However, the toy is not as durable as I would like. Given that it is bound to fall over (it's not very wide and it is tall), it should be able to withstand a few bumps. The first time it fell over, a chunk of the ramp split off, at which point I discovered that the toy is made of pressed wood-like substance. It did not glue together very well. Ultimately, the toy's fun value makes it worthwhile though.

We bought this ramp racer for our 6.5 year old girl and 3 year old boy this Christmas and they absolutely love it! They play with it all the time and love making up stories and games with the 2 cars and ramps. HOWEVER, we bought the recommended race car set with it...DON'T BUY THE SET OF EXTRA RACE CARS TO USE ON THE RAMP RACER!! They are too large and do not fit under the low points of the ramp slopes. I have emailed the company asking them to address the issue. Otherwise, the ramp racer is well built, durable (it's been knocked over at least twice with no problems) and will lead to hours of fun.

This is a fun toy that a 2.5 year old boy loves, but it is falling apart. We already have had to reconstrunct the flip-down ramp at the bottom, the paint is peeling all over the place and the whole thing is becoming unsteady. My son plays with it as it was intended to be used (he is not abusing the toy, in other words) and it is just not holding up. I'm very disappointed because I bought this one over other brands based on the fact that it is a "Melissa & Doug" toy. They may charge a lot more, but the quality is crap. I'm so disappointed!

I purchased the track along with a set of race cars, as suggested by Amazon. The other cars do not fit the track, are way too large, and it only comes with 3 cars. Hot wheels do work on the track also, so that was a life saver. My 18m old loves it! I love it because he can't take it apart. Dissapointed about the other cars tho.

I bought this toy for my preschool class. Right off the bat, we were shorted a piece that was used to insert inside another piece in order to snug up a screw. We had to improvise. Tried it out. The cars would not stay upright on the ramp. They would turn over on their side and slide down until they stopped. Took to school to try out with different cars. Finally found that matchbox cars worked. First day, a piece that was assembled at the factory came unglued. Noticed on day 3 that the paint was chipping off in the same spot on every layer of ramp. I was jealous when my collegue had more luck with a plastic racing ramp that she bought at WalMart. I would not recommend this toy.

The track is very fun for the kids but seriously limited because there are no spare cars and no apparent option for purchasing more just like them. I think the extra car sets shown with this company are misleading because no qualifier is stated that those cars do not work with the race track. It makes me skeptical about repeat business.
