I want to say first that I LOVE Melissa and Doug products. They are very durable and grow with my son developmentally. My problem with this product is that what I received was very clearly NOT a Melissa and Doug puzzle. It very much resembled one until I picked up the puzzle pieces and discovered that they were nothing more than raw wood cut-outs w/ stickers on top! There was not one drop of paint on the pieces! The board was nicely painted and has the Melissa & Doug 'logo' on it like the others that I have, so I am not sure at all what went wrong w/ the pieces.

The puzzle pieces are not hand-painted; they have paper stickers glued over unfinished wooden cut-outs. My daughter has had this puzzle for two weeks and the stickers are already wearing off. I used to be a fan of Melissa & Doug, but I will not be buying any of their products in the future if they are now producing this kind of cheap junk.

This is a wonderful puzzle, extremely durable, with smooth edges, and delightfully fun. I purchased it for my granddaughter who just turned two. Her speech therapist immediately spied it among her toys and used it as her educational toy for that session, so there is obvious learning value. A nice change of pace from farm animals and shapes in the learning curve.

My son got this puzzle when he was 11 months old. At first he just loved taking the animals out and looking at them. Now he is 12 months and tries to put them back in. He loves playing with this toy. It seems very durable since he drops the pieces all the time. It is good for teaching animal names and also the same pictures are underneath each animal so it makes it a little easier for the baby to figure out the orientation. Great product! I will definitely purchase more similar puzzles by this company for him.

I really wanted to like this toy! My son seems to like it so far but we've only had it for a few hours and I know it's going to fall apart soon. I'm an architect and can tell you these pieces are not handpainted. They are printed pieces of computer generated images adhered to the softest wood known as MDF. There is nothing hand made about this product- it has been laser cut and printed. I could have made this for two dollars! A beautiful concept but very poor execution-- not handmade at all! Spend your money on the more expensive wooden toys made with safe materials and longer lasting better sanded wood. I'm taking this product back!

This toy is made from wood and is very durable. No rough edges and very colorful! The pieces are large enough for little hands to work with and are able to stand alone to be played with in another way. Great puzzles for little people!

This Melissa & Doug Chunky Safari Puzzle is very well-made and toddler-proof. Sturdy (made of out wood) and with paints that are non-toxic and safe.

It has bigger, chunky pieces that are perfect for a child's first experience with puzzles. The puzzle is large, and the individual pieces are cheerful animals that kiddos can identify and appreciate. Perfect introduction to puzzles. The puzzle is bright, cheerful, and very sturdy. Highly recommended for toddlers.

I got this as a gift and my son was very excited to play with the animal shapes. He is younger than 2 years so maybe I should have waited to give it to him but I did. Very soon after he started playing with the pieces I noticed that the alligator's nose had already come off. If you are going to buy this, wait until your child stops putting everything in his/her mouth or it won't last very long.

Too easy for my toddler. Shouldn't have pictures painted on of what they are. Thick pieces though, so they make cute little animal figures to play with and they can stand.

From some of the reviews I thought I might just get a puzzle with stickers on it, but these pieces are solid wood and painted all the way around. It's so cute. Each piece is a different color. My son likes to just play with the pieces sometimes and I have to remind him that they go in a puzzle. Great puzzle and I'm definitely going to get more from this maker.
