When I was trying to decide which doctor's kit to buy, I was torn between this one and the Fisher Price medical kit (Fisher-Price Medical Kit.) In the end, I actually bought both, and this is why:

The Melissa & Doug kit has the adorable jacket and is a good price for all it contains, but it does not have a blood pressure cuff, which is something my son was really interested in. I was also worried about the stethoscope after reading the other reviews. After both kits arrived, I was very glad I had both!

The Melissa & Doug stethoscope is, indeed, not very usable. It needed a very specific battery, which I found in the jewelry department of our local major retail store that starts with a "W" and ends with "Mart." Then, after putting the battery in, the stethoscope makes this weird, loud coughing sound when you push the button. It's kind of disturbing, actually. My kids (ages 3 and 1), just stared at it for a while, and then my older child said, "Oh, it's sick!" The stethoscope also doesn't stay in my son's ears, so he just wears it around his neck.

There is no storage for all the pieces, either, other than sticking them in all the pockets of the coat. They fall out easily if the doctor's coat is moved, so we ended that pretty quickly. Since I had the Fisher Price kit, we just combined all the medical equipment into that storage bag, and it fit nicely.

The thermometer that comes with the M&D kit is also strange and doesn't resemble any thermometer my kids are used to seeing. I'm very glad I have both kits so the kids can have the best of both worlds! It also makes it easier to have two syringes, since that seems to be the favorite tool, and both kids can have one!

Admittedly, the surgical mask is adorable when I put it on the kids, but they won't wear it for more than a few seconds. Oh, and my son wears a size 5T shirt, and the doctor's coat is a little baggy on him, which I think is great since he can use the coat for even longer!

I bought this for my niece's third birthday. It was her favorite gift! She plays "doctor" with her dolls, stuffed animals, and even her parents. As a teacher, I know how important role play is for children her age and when I saw this package which includes the doctor coat-I knew that she would love this more than a simple bag of "doctor" tools. Melissa and Doug products are wonderful too!

The stethoscope now requires two AAA batteries, instead of a watch battery, but I listened to the noises once and then took the batteries out. There's a thumping heartbeat, which is ok, but it alternates with a hacking cough, which is terrible. The toys are cheap and the edges aren't all finished, which seems typical of Melissa & Doug items, but the coat is very well made and the tag says machine-washable (haven't tried it, but seems likely). Amazon says the size is for 3-4 years old, which I think is reasonably accurate. My daughter is a 99th percentile 2 3/4 year old, and it fit her comfortably with a bit of room to grow. Good as a Halloween costume.

This is the best doctor dress up I have ever seen. The tools are way better than when I was a kid. The only thing is they need strange batteries.

The uniform is very well made and so are other stuff that came with except the scope. It doesn't stay in her ears which is quite annoying and it frustrates my daughter.

My 4.5 year old wanted to be a doctor for Halloween. We got this 6 weeks beforehand and he's already played with it a lot. It has fun tools and seems a lot more durable than many dress up items.

My 5 yr old daughter likes to pretend to play doctor all the time, so you can imagine her face when she received this gift for her birthday. The MD lab coat is really well made with thick durable material. The stethoscope makes heart sounds and a hacking cough sound which she really enjoys. She probably plays with this costume more than her disney princess outfits.

This was a waste of money. Melissa & Doug usually make good products. This isn't one of them. The stethoscope (which requires batteries, not included) worked off and on for a few minutes. The face mask is impossible to keep on. What blood-pressure cuff? The thermometer and other medical utensils are cheap junk - except that the set is not cheap. The only item worth anything is the cute little jacket. My granddaughter wanted to grow up to be a doctor - and loved playing doc. Not any more...

The stethoscope tube was severed in half so unuseable and the wiring on the stethoscope was not soldered properly so the sound did not work. Only good thing was didn't need the 2 AAA batteries which did NOT come with it.
The doctor jacket had flaws in the sewing and loose strings everywhere. The doctor mask was so small wouldn't even fit around a doll's head yet alone my 3 year old granddaughter.

I bought this for my 3 yr old granddaughter & she loves playing with it. The lab coat adds the perfect touch to role playing. The instruments fit in the pockets so they can easily store while playing or not. Just wished the stethoscope came with those special type batteries to install as I forgot to purchase them & spoiled my granddaughter's fun.
