Realistic Felt Food Inspires the Imagination

With the Melissa & Doug Felt Food Sandwich set, your child can be the chef, server, or customer. Place an order and wait for your little one to get your order just right, or watch as he or she creates meals for friends or dolls. This set includes games and activities to help children learn about mealtime, counting, colors, and shapes.

Wide Variety of Foods Teaches Nutrition

With 33 pieces to choose from, kids can learn the difference between healthy and less healthy meals and begin to discover what they like to eat. A guide on the Sandwich set package identifies the different meats, cheeses, condiments, vegetables, and breads. Our testers had a little trouble distinguishing between similar-looking pieces, such as the round, off-white turkey and provolone slices, but with a little help, kids will understand what each piece represents.

Felt Bread and Fillings for Easy Stacking

Unlike wood or plastic toy food, the felt pieces in the Sandwich set stack easily. The felt's texture adds extra friction, so your child's culinary masterpieces will stay together until they're ready to try a new combination.

Each piece of food is durable, with tight stitching and dense stuffing for the different breads and the egg. Our testers enjoyed the different thicknesses of the nearly life-size pieces, which add extra tactile interest and mimic the size of the various real foods. Printed pieces have details on both sides.

Extra Details Help Kids Learn

Thoughtful details like stitched veins on the lettuce and printed seeds and textures on the tomatoes and salami help kids identify each piece's real-world counterpart. Different colors distinguish wheat and white bread as well as pickles and cucumbers, so playtime can also offer an easy, natural vocabulary lesson.

Aids Memory, Sorting, and Hand-Eye Coordination

The brightly colored parts of the Sandwich set offer a variety of opportunities for learning. Children can sort the ingredients into vegetables and meats or try to remember a friend's favorite sandwich. As they stack the felt pieces into a simple PB&J or a towering Dagwood sandwich, they'll practice hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Durable Felt Pieces for Years of Playtime

Each piece this Sandwich set is made of durable die-cut or stitched acrylic felt that can be cleaned with a damp cloth. These sandwich pieces are not machine washable and should not be put in a dishwasher, microwave, or oven.

This is a great toy! It comes with four different types of "bread;" wheat, white, hoagie and pita. The fillings include tomatoes, lettuce, bacon, jelly, fried egg, peanut butter, jelly, onions, etc... tons of food! The details on the food slices are well thought-out. The bacon is streaky, the tomatoes have sections and seeds, the cucumbers are 2-toned with seeds. I bought this for my son's 2nd birthday- he's still a little too young to get the concept, but my 5 year old son has been playing with it non-stop and has made me so many different sandwiches. It's an engaging toy and will keep your kids busy and happy for hours! It's also a good toy for getting your kids to play together nicely. I love this!

This is a really neat toy with a lot of play value. It has a lot more pieces than appears from the picture and kids can really use their creativity to put together all kinds of sandwiches. Very nice alternative to all the plastic food that is out there.

The beginning of imaginative play in our house with our 18 month old = mimicking mommy in the kitchen. Sandwich making helps her with sequencing (yes, I know it's a little early for that) and stacking. She can also make different sandwiches with mommy during "cooking" time. I like that this is felt -- I think it's a little early for her to have the wooden sets -- and although it says "surface wash", I've washed M & D felt toys in the washer & dryer before, and they've come out undamaged. There are no bells and whistles with this set, it's just pieces of felt made to look like various breads, sandwich fillings, and condiment splatters, but it's the simplicity that attracts my little one. She likes to run around with the bread, and I've seen the pb & J "splatters" being "fed" to her Elmo doll and her lovey dog.

Our 2 and 4 year old daughters were the recipient of this toy and of the many toys they got for Christmas, this has been a keeper that gets played with almost every day. The only caveat is that the "condiments" are made of a little bit thinner felt that may not hold up over time. Overall, though, a fun toy and good value.

I LOVE Melissa & Doug toys! This sandwich set is lots of fun! My daughter likes making sandwiches for us and they're learning too! She constantly asks what each piece is and decides if ham and peanut butter will go together...sometimes it does ;) The felt is durable and soft enough for my infant daughter to play with too.

I can always count on Melissa & Doug for great toys...my daughter loves this set! This particular set stands out from other pretend food sets in that it's not plastic or wood...so it's much easier for her to make a sandwich without all the pieces falling all over the place when she goes to pick it up. The fact that it's felt also makes it a nice, quiet toy! It comes with SO many different toppings that she's always coming up with crazy new combinations. You can't really tell from the picture, but it comes with white bread, wheat bread, a sub roll, and a pita to hold all your toppings. Toppings include several types of meat & cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, bacon, eggs, mustard, mayo, ketchup, peanut butter, & Jelly. Fun, fun, fun!

I love Melissa and Doug products and we have several. Apple pie, wood pizza, stir fry, cookies, and tea stacking set. The felt seems like just that felt cut outs. There doesn't seem to be much to it and the pieces are easily sticking to other velcro items and getting ruined. We have only had this since Christmas, so I don't know how long it's going to last. It's cute and a fun idea, but I feel like I could have made these items cheaper and they would be the same durability.

Pretend food is always a big hit with young children, and my 3 year old niece loved the colorful pieces and many options of sandwich building. Great for learning colors. We also play a memory game where I say the order I want the items stacked on my sandwich and she tries to remember it all! Lots of fun! Lots of play for the money!
