5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Toddlers, Absolutely Perfect
PLEASE read my review for Melissa and Dougs 4pk of Painting Brushes. These paints are so much bolder and brighter than crayola Colors. I believe the chunky texture of the paints has something to do with it being washable. All of the washable paints I have used so far have the same texture. No matter what the manufacturer. But these are the most vibrant. When used with...

3.0 out of 5 stars my little girl likes it
My little girl loves painting. I can't seem to pull this product away from her. The colors are very vivid and beautiful. The only thing i dont like about these paints is that after you use them once they get really chunky. all her art had these bill globs all over them. Generally I like and trust Melissa and Doug toys but I was dumbfounded by this fingerpaint set. It is utterly useless. To make the material washable (I imagine) the texture is akin to warm Jello. There is no vibrancy to the colors; they are translucent when applied to paper. And the paint dries on the finger before a little one can complete the simplest picture. My advice: Don't frustrate your child with this product. Wait until s/he is ready for real fingerpaint.

But these are the most vibrant. When used with Melissa and Dougs brushes it is a perfect way to introduce your toddler to painting. the Best. Maybe the older kids would mind the texture a bit but toddlers will not even notice. If anything my son likes when the paint kind of chunks a bit and will focus on spreading it out evenly over the paper

This is more like Elmer's glue. The paint is really chunky and stringy. The colors don't blend well. I will not buy again, and would not recommend.

This is one of the worst Melissa and Doug products ever.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrible consistency, and colors don't blend, January 19, 2009

The consistency begins as jelly-like and devolves to watery and lumpy over time; shaking or stirring does not help. Also, my daughter loves to mix her own colors, but these colors are almost impossible to mix: yellow + red = yellow/red, not orange. We have used other washable finger paints and not had these problems. I would not recommend these to anyone and will never buy them again.

This paint was great... the first time I used it. After finishing, I tightly closed all the lids and put it away. The next time I pulled it out, the paint had turned to coloured water. My friend has it too, and the same thing happened to her. I love Melissa & Doug products, but this one really didn't seem to work!

Great product and my 4-year-old granddaughter loves it. I like the packaging, because the base that holds the individual cups in the package is durable enough to hold the paints while they are in use to help avoid accidental spills. I downgraded durablity, because after one or two sessions, with a week between sessions, the paint pigment starts to separate from the solvent and needs to be mixed....very messy business for both a 4-year-old and a 60-year-old. I'm sure a young parent could manage the task easily. It has washed off of every surface she blessed with it, even when left unnoticed for a week.

Pro: Washable

Con: Clumpy gel; dull colors

I always made sure I closed the lid tightly. Once left a couple of months untouched, the consistency of the paints changed from the gel into sludgy water. I had to throw them away. Saying that, my son sure did enjoy painting with them! Maybe I just expected a bit more for the price.

We are HUGE Melissa and Doug fans. This finger paint was great to use the first time. However, the next time we went to use the product, it had ALL turned into this watery mess that was useless. Very disappointed. I will not recommend this product.

Please do not buy these finger paints. They are the consistency of warm jello, and you can only use them one time after they are opened. NOT worth the money.
