3.0 out of 5 stars dissapointed
While this doll house is really a wonderful toy, there are some aspects of it that greatly dissappointed me.

The furniture that comes with it is made extremely poorly. When we received this house and opened it up: table was broken, chairs were separated from their legs (unglued), bed stands were broken. I am really dissapointed as I expected better quality...

We just bought this doll house for our 5 year old daughter and it was an instant hit. For those considering making the purchase, here are my thoughts about this toy.

I think this doll house looks quaint, and for my part I think that wooden doll houses are just much nicer than plastic ones (even though there are some really cute plastic ones around). I particularly like the fact that the garage door and front door can open and close--very realistic!

The couple that comes with it is very cute and they have moveable legs, so they can sit on the furniture, etc. The furniture does not look like "real life" furniture (may be a problem for some people) but I thought it was nice anyway and also it is really sturdy. My daughter has a younger brother and we don't have to worry about him breaking anything because the pieces that came with the house are solid and well-made.

Some people mentioned the problem with the glued on labels. Perhaps the manufacturer has been reading these reviews because the labels on the house we bought came off quite easily (my 3 year old son pulled them off with no problem).

What disappointed me about this house were three things. First, although the house folds shut, which makes it portable as advertised, the handles don't fasten together. If you are carrying it you have to be careful to keep both handles together or the house will slip open and the furniture will fall out. I think they should have included a simple clasp that would keep both halves together.

Second, you can't take the clothes off the dolls. My daughter wanted to put the figures in the bath, but felt that she had to undress them first. So that wasn't a plus.

Finally, although I love the figures and the furniture, I'd like to be able to add to what I have. If you buy a more traditional type house it isn't difficult to buy more furniture. With this set, though, it would be hard to find furniture that matched.

All told, my complaints are few. I am glad we bought the toy, it was well worth the money, and my daughter loves it!

This toy house is sure to become an heirloom in our family. Although it's listed for 3 year-olds, my 2 year-old daughter took to it immediately. I don't think she really understand the rooms particularly but it's fun for her to pretend with the "Momma" and "Daddy" dolls. This house could be very much fun to paint and decorate.
My only complaint is that the labels are glued to the roof eaves and very hard to remove....why wouldn't the manufacturers use that tacky glue that comes off so easily?

This is a terrific doll house! I work in a school environment and selected this house because of its appeal to both boys and girls; so many doll houses are pink and purple and that could be a turn-off to some boys. I'm pleased to say that the boys frequently pick this house during free play. In addition, it is very durable; I have had this house for more than 3 years and it still looks nearly brand-new! I agree with one of the other reviewers that it would have been great if the manufacturer had added a clasp to keep the house closed while it is being moved. It is tough for little hands to move it without the house spilling open. Nonetheless, this is a great toy! This house is a favorite in my school-room and I think will be years to come.

My 5 yo son received this from Santa last Christmas and absolutly loves it! It's really a great deal. He could have had a larger much more expensive dollhouse but chose this one because it's portable. He's had no problems whatsover w/the handles. It is made of some sort of plywood-type wood so has scratched easily...but it doesn't seem like it will fall apart any time soon and that's taking into consideration how rough my son is w/it. It comes w/a lot of furniture but we aren't happy w/the dolls as they are not made to be dressed and undressed and they are flexible rope w/kind of stumpy wooden limbs. My son became a bit frustrated when he attempted to take their clothes off only to find he actually ripped them off and he didn't like the ropey bodies. They are the same flexi-dolls I've seen at Waldorf sites. I highly recommend buying additional dolls whether the same, if that's what your child likes, or ones made differently. But this dollhouse as-is is really a great starter set and you can't beat the price. I highly recommend it.

I ordered this dollhouse to keep in my home for my grandchildren to play with in years to come. Right now I have a granddaugter who will be 3 and I think she will love it. I did, however, have to spend 30 minutes getting the glue off the house from the labels.

I believe this house will bring many hours of play for my granchildren.

I was looking for a good "starter" dollhouse for my 3 year old. This one is perfect--it's so easy to break the bank on a dollhouse, and for a child of three, it's silly to spend too much. So, we decided on the Melissa and Doug ready to go doll house and it has been a real hit. I agree with other posters that it would be nice if the house had a clasp to keep it closed when carrying it, but we've been able to make do. If you're looking for a basic, bare-bones, use-your-imagination doll house for a little one, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Dollhouse, January 15, 2007

I got this for my daughter who is 2 & 1/2 years old. This was her first dollhouse as she was more into farm animals etc. so I wondererd how much she would play with it, Well she loves, loves, loves this dollhouse. It's much bigger than I expected and really well made. The 2 little dolls that come with it are a great size for the furniture and the only drawback if you could call it one, is there was only one armchair provided in the 11 pieces of furniture... my thinking was there are 2 dolls, 2 kitchen chairs with the table but only 1 armchair in the sitting room so go figure !!! This dollhouse was great value for money and a toy that will no doubt endure time as well built as it appears to be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, yet adorable dollhouse, December 30, 2007

My daughter received this from Santa at 2 1/2. So far it has been wonderful! I love the simplicity of it! It is completely gender neutral so I'm sure her older brother will be playing with it also. My only concern with it is the fact that it doesn't lock when closed. It's kind of bulky and I really don't think she is going to be able to keep it closed and carry it around. Other than that I am completely satisfied!

My son received this for his second birthday and has played with it every day since. The labels were not a problem to remove. The people and furniture are definitely durable enough for toddlers. As someone else mentioned, I also wish that there were more figures and furniture available for the house, although they are the same scale as the old-style Fisher Price people, furniture, and cars, plus many other toy cars fit in the garage. (It's funny to see the Fisher Price dog taking a bath or watching TV!) As my kids grow older, we will probably decorate the house with rugs, wallpaper, etc.
