I bought this as a gift for my daughter last year. It has been played with some, but not as much as I would have thought. Keep in mind it does have lots of parts, and frankly I think it should be packaged with a bag for storage. There isn't really a lot to do with the letters. The child simply matches a magnet puzzle piece of the picture on top of the picture in the book. Don't need to read the words, or think about the alphabet to do this. Amusing but not great.

Love ALL Melissa & Doug products. This one is exceptionally creative with its removable, manipulative pieces that have that added magnetic benefit. Because the pieces can be removed, handled and studied by the toddler, it does have the added pitfall of perhaps losing a piece or two, so adult supervision is recommended. Also,the way the book is "held" loosely together is attractive and functional in its design. I also love that the designer selected some "unusual" words to depict the abc's, other than just the ordinary apple and cat. Great fun! Good price.
