The wheels often stick so that the toy just drags on both wooden floors and carpet. I looked at it, and it seems the leg & wheel pieces often wiggle into a position where they are too tight together and they just can't move. The design is clunky too and the pull string is a bit too short.

PASS on the puppy pull toy and go straight for the Frolicking Frog by the same company, Melissa & Doug. The frog is great!

This toy does not roll. You might as well tie a string to a box and drag it around the kitchen or the family room.

The wheels on this toy do not turn properly, so it cannot be pulled as intended. When my daughter pulls it, she's really just dragging it along because the wheels don't roll. Very, very disappointing :(

We received this toy as a gift, and I did not buy it on Amazon. However, I thought I'd review it for the benefit of other parents. We think this toy is adorable and it makes my little daughter giggle every time we pull it. She'll actually crawl around the house following it when we tug it behind us, which is pretty funny. I did not realize it was a potential choking hazard until I came to this page, so that's a bit scary since my daughter is definitely under 3 years old. I guess we'll have to supervise from now on!

I bought this for my 18 month old son after he was dragging my work ID badge and lanyard around like a pull toy. He still likes my work ID, but this is a close runner up :). It's very sturdy and doesn't fall on its side too easily, which is great for when he takes corners. he got another pull toy as a gift that has a much narrower base, and it frustrates him a lot when it constantly falls over, so I appreciate the construction of this puppy. The string is a good length, my only complaint is that it doesn't have something easier to grab onto on the end--it has a tendency to slip out of my son's hands, since he's still working on that fine motor gripping. This is easily remedied by a little craftiness to tie the string onto a small wooden cylinder (think kite flying). overall, a great simple toy.

MELISSA & DOUG PLAYFUL PUPPY PULL TOY

We purchased this sweet pull toy puppy for our great-niece, Nora, who is turning one year old. She loved the puppy before we even took him out of the package for her!

The puppy is cute, you have to admit that. He glides along on their tile floors as well as their carpeted floors smooth as can be. However, on the carpet his tail does not wag -- but it certainly does on the tile floors. Maybe their carpet is too thick? Anyway, the tail not wagging on the carpet does not hamper Nora's happiness and joy as she watched him being pulled around by her cousins. Nora loves to pick him up and explore and check him out with her little baby hands. The dog never complained once.

What was great fun and brought smiles and laughter from everyone was when Nora's daddy pulled the dog and Nora chased after them as fast as her little feet could go.

The dog is made well, is brightly painted, has a sweet and happy expression on his face, and brings back memories to the older set of the toys we used to have to play with. You certainly can't go wrong with the Melissa & Doug brand; they make everything well, is built to last, and can take all the love a baby or toddler can dish out.

If you want to make the little ones in your life happy, check out this sweet little pull toy puppy. There is also a frog from Melissa & Doug, I bet that toy would bring joy into play time also.

Thank you.

Pam

Purchased for a friend's daughter after we bought the frog pull-alongMelissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Frolicking Frog Pull Toy for our daughter.
Great toy - helps them out when they first start walking as I pulled the toy along and my daughter would follow it. It makes her laugh so hard when I run about the house with it as it makes a great clacking noise! Similar results from this toy and my friend's daughter.
Then suddenly my daughter worked it out and grabbed the string and started walking up and down pulling it herself. She loves it chasing her.
Pros - very durable although little chips do happen but as with all M&D products, it is safe and tough. Educational - fine motor in grasping the string, gross motor in walking with it, words - dog / frog and woof / ribbet. Fun - painted so nicely and stands out in the room.
It's always a big hit at playdates!
Cons - as with all string toys - you do need to supervise use to make sure your child doesn't get the string wrapped around any part of their body. Not a con so much as a be aware.
Would purchase this again for friends and would recommend it strongly.

Our son loves dogs and puppies of all kinds, and he also loves pulling strings and other things. So when he was 16 months old we thought it was time for a pull toy, and definitely wanted a dog design. We saw this cute puppy in a store first, but in the end we ordered from Amazon.

We can confirm others' experience that the toy has some real problems with rolling. It depends to some extent how you pull the toy and on what surface -- hard floors and a not-too-steep upward angle on the string both help. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it fails. The cord is too short, probably for safety reasons, and that doesn't help with pulling either.

Our son likes the puppy, but he has never spent more than five minutes playing with it. After six months, he still likes to pull the puppy very other day for about two minutes, but that is all. So it hasn't generated hours of joy or anything.

But the worst surprise was one day when my wife was putting the puppy away to clean the carpet, and she got a nasty splinter from the bottom of the toy when she grabbed it. This is surprising because the toy does appear well-made in general. It would have been a much bigger deal if it had happened to our son.

Not impressed at all, can't recommend in good conscience.

Being a new child in a home that's big baby has been a large dog for years is tough. You want to like the dog and you want the dog to like you...but the dog is jealous. This is one dog who will follow our little fellow on any adventure. No flashing lights, no crazy electronic drives me bat crap crazy noise. It is an old fashioned toy that is still fun to play with. Very well made and always happy to see his boy.

My daughter "walks her dog" all the time. We have hardwoods and carpet and don't have any problems with the wheel jamming or not turning.
