I bought this Melissa and Doug sand toy (Cupcake Maker) along with two others by Melissa and Doug, the Cookie Maker and the Ice Cream Cone Maker, for my daughter's 4th birthday. These sand toys are awesome! I bought a sand/water table by Little Tykes (the one with the green umbrella) and filled both sides, the sand and water side, with sand. I added just the right amount of water to make perfect sand for building. I put four little chairs around the sand table and my 4 children, ages 4, 7, 10, and 12 all love playing in this sand "box" (table actually). I tried out the sand toys myself and found so many different and creative ways to use them. I highly recommend this sand toy along with the other ones by Melissa and Doug. For those of you who are confused as to the purpose of the little icing utensil, it is used to "decorate" the cupcakes. The pointed end pokes little holes, and the jagged end makes jagged marks... all of which is FUN for kids (and adults lol). Buy this... you won't regret it!

I purchased the Sunny Patch cupcake, cookie and ice cream sets for a recent beach vacation. My 3 and 5 year old daughters loved them! Each set has some great playthings and some that didn't get much use.

In the cupcake set, one daughter used the four cupcake molds to serve as "cups" for the scoops of ice cream she created from the ice cream set (though she also offered cones as an option for her customers). My younger daughter used the cupcake "tin" to create four cakes which she then turned out onto the cookie sheet from the cookie set. The sprinkle can (that came with the cookie set and the ice cream set) was a hit with both girls and I was glad to have two! These toys are well made and durable and will be enjoyed by my girls for many years.

As with most Melissa and Doug products, this set is very durable and made with quality materials...unlike most beach sets you'll find. I purchased the cookie, cupcake, and ice cream sets as well as the nesting pails. All are great. They provided hours of fun and creativitiy. I am sure they will last a very long time.

Our children (ages 4 & 2) love to play with this toy in the sand box. It is very well made and lots of fun. The only problem? They fight over it! I'm ordering another one right now!

I purchased this for my three year old granddaughter to take on a beach vacation. She played for hours with this set. She made "cupcakes" for everyone decorated with shells, seaweed, little sticks and stones and served them on large seashells. I agree with another reviewer that the icing tool has little use as it is flat, but my granddaughter used it as a little knife to cut our cupcakes. The pieces are sturdy and colorful. We even used the molds to make little houses when we made a sand village. This was well worth the money!

my 2-year old played with these for an entire week on our last beach trip. she made everyone sand cupcakes and kept us well "fed". The little icing tool is a little extraneous - doenst really do anything. but teh cupcakes were colorful and loads of fun.

This toy provides so many more hours of fun than regular buckets and shovels. Kids like to play with small things in the sand. If you add a plastic spoon to the set your child will play for ages! All the kids at the playground want to play with these too. They are super fun for kids!

This is better than you would imagine. I wasn't particularly impressed and it looked way to basic for my four year ole. WRONG! she LOVES this set. She made sand cupcakes and decorated them with shells for hours. It was the first thing she wanted to do the next day at the beach. More amazingly, her older cousins (6 & 8) also loved them and played with her.I highly recommend this. I don't necessarily see the appeal but clearly I am not their target demographic...

Saw this toy at a baby pool and all the kids, even some a little older, were playing with it. Bought it for my granddaughter and she loves it (as well as any other children that happen to be around). Haven't used it in the sand yet, but it's a big hit with the kids at the pool.

My grandchildren liked to take this toy to the playground and beach. When we lost a few parts, I ordered a new set.
