At least 50% of the pieces broke upon initial separation - the top layer either peeled off or peg separated from the three layers of wood that make up the toy. I am hoping to salvage the toy with some glue and with some adult use loosen the connection enough that a child can separate without destroying the toy. Not durable at all and definitely does not stand up to continuous child play. I love the concept, but I am really disappointed in the poor quality of this Melissa and Doug toy.

My son received the Self-Correcting A-Z Letter Puzzle for Christmas this year. We normally request Melissa and Doug products from our relatives and friends, when they ask, because we know we can expect a quality gift. Not this time! After playing with this puzzle for 5 minutes, three pieces were already broken. My son is not a rough guy. Just popping the pieces together and apart splits the flimsy wood where they attach. The paper image on each piece is already peeling at each joint too. I called Melissa and Doug today and they are sending out a different style of puzzle, something more durable I hope. Great customer service! Too bad I needed to call at all. I really hope they discontinue this item, as it will give them a bad name fast.

We've only had these since Christmas and only used them several times since then and yet the paper is peeling from the pieces. Once my son notices, he tears them further. I wish Melissa and Doug products were what they are advertised - all wood. Even our cheap wooden blocks have the pictures printed right on them, what's the reason for the cheap paper lamination that comes off after very little use? It makes no sense. I thought this would be great for teaching my son his ABC's and now I wish I hadn't bought them.

The puzzle pieces broke at the initial separation. Luckily I was around and the child didn't get any splinters as the puzzle pieces are made out of wood, so made them pretty sharp and unusable.

I am so disappointed about the decline in Melissa and Doug products! They used to be reliable, good quality, but now most M&D toys we get are junk. A prefect example is this puzzle set. My daughter just got it and I was taking the pieces apart to we could play and piece after piece split! They're still usable, but I'm sure that after she starts to use them they will continue to fall apart.

This is theoretically a great puzzle toy, and the pictures are cute. However, the wood is so, so cheap and breaks almost instantly. They are so hard to get apart and fit together it's hard for even an adult to do. I really wouldn't recommend these at all. I might get rid of them because I think someone will get a splinter.

I have Melissa and Doug Puzzles from when my stepson was a toddler then went through my 3 boys and are now being enjoyed by my 2 year old nephew. The puzzle edges in this set are splitting after the first use. So disappointing. When a company loses it's customers' trust, it's so hard to get it back. Why would Melissa and Doug risk their excellent reputation by putting out a product like this?

This product was put together poorly. After playing with it a single time nearly half the pieces are broken and the laminated pictures are peeling off. Each broken piece is splintery which is certainly a problem with small children playing with it.
