4.0 out of 5 stars very cute
This puzzle is really great for a few reasons. When my daughter younger and we were learning shapes, she LOVED holding all the shapes and naming them. Also they are different colors which is fun, and helps teach colors. The other thing it's great for is dexterity. My daughter is now 26 months old, and still has trouble manipulating the star, rectangle and triangle the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but cheaply done
Great concept, but I was disappointed to find that the shapes are plain wood with colored paper on just the front, rather than painted wood all the way around. One or two mouthings and the paper started wearing off within the first day! I generally really like M&D products, so was sorry this one wasn't more durable. I'll probably only buy these in stores in the future...

This puzzle is really great for a few reasons. When my daughter younger and we were learning shapes, she LOVED holding all the shapes and naming them. Also they are different colors which is fun, and helps teach colors. The other thing it's great for is dexterity. My daughter is now 26 months old, and still has trouble manipulating the star, rectangle and triangle the right directions, to fit into the holes. This poses a fun and interesting challenge for her. She loves to do the puzzle with me. I put all the pieces in the wrong places and she gets very annoyed and corrects my mistakes, which is another fun game. It's a great toy for a kid to play with on their own, or with a parent.

My daughter got this for her first birthday and it helped her to quickly identify shapes and colors. I love all of Melissa and Doug's products and this product is no exception. It is great because the pieces are so chunky and easy for a small child to manipulate.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap; paper covering rubs off, April 18, 2010

My grandson loved these blocks but when they got sticky I wiped them with a damp cloth and the paper started rubbing off. I thought they were painted and would be more durable. Any child's toy should be sturdy enough to wipe clean.

My recently turned one year old loves this. Star was one of his 1st words. Santa brought this gift to him. The paper on the tops of these shapes is already starting to peel...apart from that I'm happy with the purchase.

My daughter loves shapes and has mastered a few puzzles already at her age. She loved this toy when we got it but within a few hours the wood started to chip. Since all kids throw their stuff around, this is not a good toy to have about. The shapes are made of a cheap looking composite and even at the smallest drop on my carpet, the wood chips. I spent another hour just trying to pick off the wood bits from my carpet.
The next day, the paint or sticker on the shapes started to peel off. Very disappointed and a very cheap product for what I paid. Waste of money.
I bought another word puzzle for much less and it has been extremely durable.

I did a lot of research to find the perfect one and this one was my number one choice and I don't regret it. My daughter (21 months old now) loves to play with it everyday. It keeps her engaged with the colors and shapes for good 20-30 minutes. Wish the shapes were rather painted but oh well.

I love this puzzle. I love how simple and clear everything is on it. It's great for teaching shapes, colors and words. My son used to love this when he was into the chunky puzzles and for a while I remember he would find shapes around the house (doors and cabinets = rectangles, light fixtures = circles, mirrors = squares, etc) constantly name them. I was amazed that he could really tell the difference between a rectangle and a square (he was about 15-18 mos) and that the heart and star are his favorite shapes. He would even find the smallest things and notice their shapes...like that an eraser and the buds of daisies are round. With this puzzle he also figured otu that you could stack some of the shapes upright as long as they had a flat side. If he couldn't stack them upright he would lie them flat and we would do kaleidoscope-ish designs. This was a fun and very educational puzzle!
