Product Description

Melissa & Doug Tootle Turtle Mower

From the Manufacturer

Cheerful Tootle Turtle loves doing his yardwork. This cleverly designed plastic lawnmower has lots of ways to interest little ones: a storage compartment under the shell, a plastic fuel can to "pour," clicking dials and a pull-cord that makes a motor sound.

Customer Reviews

It's so cute and very durable!

My granddaughter loves her lawn mower - she keeps it in her playhouse and whenever Daddy mows the lawn she is out there helping.

I have a 3 year old autistic boy who is big into handheld button toys. Some of his favorites are these: The LeapFrog Chat and Count Phone, The LeapFrog Text and Learn, The LeapFrog My Own Leaptop, and The LeapFrog My Own Story Time Pad. He loves these toys, not to mention his iPod Touch. I'm sure you can see a common theme with those favorites of his.

Over time, I've tried more traditional toys like the good old Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Corn Popper Push Toy, and he showed no interest in them. So when this Tootle Turtle Mower came up on Amazon Vine, I rolled the dice and got it. I just assumed he wouldn't bother with it at all like he hasn't bothered with other similar toys. I was wrong. He seems to love it. I was quite taken by the fact that he pushes it around in a very similar fashion that one would push a real lawnmower. I think the big key here is that it makes a noise when you push it. There's also a couple of knobs and switches on the handle that he moves around. He's sort of figured out you can open the lid and put things inside, which is good, that kind of thing is a skill he's just starting to develop now.

Given my son is autistic, there's no discernible (to me anyway) imaginative play with the toy.

This mower is pretty much a run-of-the-mill plastic toy. The best part is that the child can make noise in 4 different ways (wheels, starter, and 2 clickers on the handle). The noise is not loud or annoying which is good for adults in proximity.

The main negative is that the mower has only about 1-2" of ground clearance so it is more of an indoor toy than something a child can push around outside on grass. It works fine on hard surfaces or carpet. This toy would have made more sense if it had big wheels and lots of ground clearance so a child can actually use it on grass as a pretend mower.

My 2 1/2 year old has been really interested in outdoor appliances lately, so I thought he'd have a lot of fun with a lawnmower. I picked this one specifically because I've had good luck with Melissa & Doug in the past, and I thought it was much cuter than other comparable options. It might be a tiny bit expensive for being a large piece of plastic (and not necessarily the MOST durable plastic, but it's probably durable enough for a toddler, which is at least saying something), but my son has enjoyed this toy so thoroughly that I'd say it was more than worth it.

At first I thought this toy would be too "old" for him as he just turned two a couple of months ago. But to my surprise he loves this toy and do do I.

It has all kinds of thing that he can do with it, such as moving the level lever up and down, twisting the other nob and pulling the "chain" of the mower, just like a real one. Each one of the features makes a noise but not a loud, annoying one. There's a makeshift gas can in which he can pour "fuel." Great fun for a little one.

But best of all my grandson can put his small toys under the "hood" of the mower and run around with them. He loves this toy! And I especially like it because the noise is not loud or obnoxious. It does make a noise when being pushed but it is not bad at all.

The construction of the toy seems to be really good as my grandson has a tendency to break toys without fail after a few days use. He has not damaged this one and it seems to be holding up well after several day's worth of use. It seems to be his favorite toy at the moment and he is playing with it constantly.

Wonderful fun for our 2 year old grandson. He loves it and uses it all the time.
He mows the carpet, the floor, etc, etc.

My 2 year old loves to be outside and pretends to help daddy mow the grass all the time. I started looking for a toy lawnmower for him and was very disappointed in many of the reviews for the products out there. I came across this one and the reviews looked promising so I ordered it. We have had it for almost 2 months now and it is still a huge hit. He loves pushing it around the grass and doesn't have any problems doing so, something many of the other products out there can't say. He also loves the little toy gas can that comes with it and he fills his up just like daddy. The one thing that we aren't a fan of is the pull start only comes up an inch or 2, so it's kind of pointless. It makes a fun noise, but he usually just pretends to pull a longer one to be more like a real lawnmower.

I am so very disappointed with this toy, it does not work in the grass at all!! I would take it back but I already gave it to my 2 year old for his birthday. He has been extremely frustrated about not being able to use it in the grass. I wouldn't say it ruined his birthday but it sure didn't do a sick kiddo any favors! If you're going to make a lawn mower toy, make sure it will work in actual grass, if I wanted one that only worked on pavement I would have bought a cheaper one.
