Customer Reviews

This is a really fun and simple toy.

Paper squares don't fit very well into the spinner, and often move and shift during spinning.
NebrRN
It doesn't have a battery and doesn't have to be plugged in.

I have to start by saying that ordinarily I LOVE Melissa and Doug products. However ... this toy is a joke. It broke the 1st time it was used (Melissa & Doug replaced the faulty part, thank you!) When the new one arrived, it has zero play value ... it doesn't do what it should. The base is too narrow so the paint never gets enough momentum to actually spin and make some cool art. It just blobs there and doesn't make anything interesting to look at. The paper constantly comes out of the holder, and to really make things worse ... the paint isn't washable and ruined my favorite pair of Hanna Andersson pajamas ... the stains won't come out for ANYTHING. I can't recommend this at all. I'd send you mine if you still want to try it, but I don't want it cluttering up my house for that much longer. A total disappointment.

It doesn't spin fast enough to create the pictures shown. I did not think it was a good value. My grandchildren (age 3 & 4) were unable to handle it. I had one of these when I was a child that worked on batteries and will look for that one again so it has more spin.

This product has been getting bad reviews, but I think it's mainly "user error." I have one, and gave one to my sister. We both think that it has been a great toy for our kids. We have way too many toys that eat up batteries, so the fact that it is hand operated is a plus. However, as with many crafts for young children, adult assistance is necessary. You get better results if you make sure the paint is added during the spinning. Therefore, I found it easiest to do the spinning while my kids squirt in the paint. The paint stays in the tub, which is very easy to clean. It's surprisingly not messy, as long as there are no accidents (i.e. child misses the tub). I just rinse it out as soon as we're done. It is definitely not a toy that I would expect a child to play without an adult helping. My 2 and 4 year old really enjoy this. My 5 year old niece enjoys hers so much that her grandma bought her more paint! It's great for creative children!

Do NOT spend money on this awful toy. It does not spin fast enough at all to create anything close to the pictures on the cover. I have never been so disappointed with a toy product in my life; in fact, I have never written a review before but want to warn everyone not to buy this ineffective toy. My daughter and her friend were so disappointed with it, as was I.

Used this item for a carnival. The kids had a great time. The only thing I woul suggest is cutting up extra oaktag before starting the game and I bought large bottles of paint because I had so many kids using the toy

We love this -- the colors are vivid and the spinning is fun. Because the kids control the spin/speed, it's almost a science experiment in cause/effect. And no batteries to die on us!

We have had lots of fun the past few days with this. Its not real sturdy but it also doesn't cost much either. We didn't have any problems with the paper spinning and we have gotten it to a good speed for the paint.

The general idea is pretty simple. You stick the red base to a table/surface with suction cups, insert a piece of paper, spin, and apply paint. We gave this to my daughter for Christmas and she loves it. You can make some interesting looking art with it.

The suction cups held the base in place on our kitchen counter, and the manual spinner worked very well. You could get the paper spinning pretty good to make some interesting designs. The paint bottles were very easy to squeeze, making it easy for even the little one to participate. You had to be careful not to squeeze too hard though, as the paint flows pretty easily.

As far as the potential mess is concerned, the base does a really good job of containing it. When the spinner throws paint, it is tossed out onto the walls of the base itself. When complete you'll have to wipe it out, but it's definitely self contained. It worked much better than I expect it to...

My only reason for subtracting a star is the provided paper. The squares they provide seem a little small for the base itself. Sometimes you have to get it in 'just right' to ensure the paper is secured on all 4 sides. The paper also tends to curl up once paint is applied, so you might have to make some minor adjustments between spins.

All in all it's a great product and everyone is having fun playing with it.
