I just received this puzzle as a gift. Having another older-style Chunky puzzle, I am VERY disappointed in the quality. Instead of the designs being painted on, the front of the pieces are paper stickers and scratch off very easily. The old Chunky puzzles were much better quality and last longer. How disappointing that Melissa and Doug should make such poor quality puzzles!

And to me this means that my son loves to play with this puzzle. He likes all of his Melissa and Doug Chunky Puzzles. This one isn't his favorite but as he becomes older (is 16 months now) and more interested in vehicles, this one does capture his attention more. His all time favorite is still the Pets one and I can NEVER find the black and white cat because he carries it around everywhere.

We bought this for my son at 20 months as a gift from his new baby brother. He is 2 and this toy has gotten some wear. He loves it. Plus, the way the peices are made make it actually east for him to put the shapes in the proper spots. The puzzle is made well and good quality wood. My son has enjoyed learning words to go along with his peices (fire truck, bus, boat, etc...) and will even play with the pieces on their own outside the puzzle.

I just ordered the Melissa and Doug Vehicle Chunky Puzzle.
Last year my son received this puzzle and the Construction Puzzle for a gift. I love the wooden pieces. He not only does he love completing the puzzle, the pieces themselves are toys. It really is a special toy I plan to keep for my grandkids.
I ordered a new set to decorate his dresser for his room. I am disappointed in the changes made to the product. The paint does not go all the way around the pieces and the paint on the front of the pieces is not the same quality. I feel this is no longer a stand out product for children, definitely not something I would keep for other children when my son is finished with it. I will settle for these on his dresser, although it will not look as nice as I hoped.
I think of Melissa and Doug as a brand that is making wonderful, lasting toys for children. The quality for this product has definitely gone down.

We purchased this puzzle for our son when he was 1 year old. Now, one year later, he still enjoys playing with it.

This is such a wonderful starter puzzle because it teaches little ones that pieces can only fit one way. This seems so basic, but it lets them have early success, which builds confidence for doing more advanced puzzles later. Also, the chunky wood pieces are easy for small hands to recognize, remove, grasp, and manipulate.

This puzzle is not challenging for our son anymore, but he really likes talking about all the vehicles, the sounds they make, etc.

Like all Melissa & Doug toys, this puzzle is very well-made. One bonus about this company is if you lose or break a piece, they'll replace it, usually with no additional charge. That's quality service!

This is my fourth chunky puzzle. One used, one as a gift a year ago, and two recent acquisitions including this one. On the older ones, the pieces are painted all around and the quality is wonderful. The used one is years old and still looks great. On the newer ones, as other reviewers said...just some cheap stick-on on the front, it is not painted on the sides or back. My son chews on them occasionally and it actually starts to come off. And what's worse, two pieces on this transportation puzzle are cut inaccurately and have to be practically crammed into the puzzle.

Melissa and Doug should be ashamed of themselves...trading on their good name and reputation and slowly cheaping down their product, expecting us not to notice.

Although Amazon shipped this much quicker than I expected, it is not what was pictured nor what Melissa & Doug used to sale. I have a number of Melissa & Doug puzzles that are painted on ALL sides. The older puzzles are made of real wood and feel much nicer than this pressed board crap. They are also cut to the image where the newer puzzles are mere outlines, haphazardly thrown together. I would have promptly returned this puzzle, but my 19 month old son really loves puzzles and saw this and the other 2 puzzles as they were coming out of the box. I cannot believe that these cost the same amount or more than the other puzzles we own, yet they are of such an inferior quality that I cannot believe the are trying to pawn it off as the same thing they used to sale. Shame on you Melissa & Doug.

This is the first Melissa & Doug product I have purchased, but it will NOT be the last! Purchased for my 18 month old grandchild, and it is wonderful. The puzzle pieces are very thick - about twice as thick as the wooden board they sit in, so those chunky little fingers can grasp the pieces easily to lift them out, and put them back in place. When you remove the puzzle piece from its "slot", there is a second, identical picture of the puzzle piece under it, making it easier for the little one to identify where each piece belongs.

Very sturdy and also very colorful!

We have several of these chunky puzzles. This one came with only the front of the puzzle pieces painted. The older ones we have (insects, farm animals, sea creatures, pets) were all completely painted and are fun as free-standing figures,not just puzzle pieces. Otherwise, it's a fun puzzle.

I got this puzzle for my son when he was almost 2. He LOVED it and he's about to turn 3 now and still LOVES it, but it's just WAY too easy for him. It's not a challenge anymore as far as a puzzle goes, but he likes to play with the pieces and drive or float them around. The age range says up to 5 years old but I think that's WAY too old. 3 years MAX, I'd say. Very sturdy and high quality, too.
