The Wooden Bear Family Dress-Up Puzzle is designed for children three and up. Our testers found that the pieces do not hold up to baby slobber or being dunked in water. Our testers also found that some of the pieces fit snugly, requiring an adult to help younger children squeeze the pieces into place.

I bought this set for one niece and she liked it so much, I've bought a second one for another. They are both just turning 3 years old.

One thing we found frustrating is that the pieces are not interchangeable between bears, however there's no easy way to tell which one goes with which bear. They arrive neatly organized in three separate sections of the bin, however that lasts about 12 seconds before they are all in one big pile.

I took paint markers and marked the back of each piece -- a red flower for momma bear, a blue star for pappa bear, and a green heart for baby bear. I then made the same marks on the puzzle base and the box sections.

This will help the kids be able to tell which pieces go where and to which bear. It will also add some color and pattern matching learning opportunities to the set. I've added an image to this listing with the markings added.

The set is very cute. My 2 yr old girls and 5 yr old son all love playing with it. 2 things you need to know -- 1) if you have a child that still puts things in their mouth, they will ruin this toy. The wooden pieces are not choking hazards (that I can tell) but the "clothes" slide right off the wood if your child sucks or chews on it. 2) There are a lot of angry faces. I think papa bear only has one smiling face and the rest are all either angry, confused, or sleeping. I would have liked to see more happy expressions - excitement, contentment, even a silly face. This might seem petty, but if your kids use them to make up stories, then they are making up a bunch of sad, mad, weird stories to match the faces with limited happy options. Anyway, my girls like making up new outfits for the bears. I would buy it again (may have to, after all the chewing!!! LOL)

We have at least a dozen Melissa and Doug puzzles and this is by far our least favorite. It was a present for my daughter's third birthday and while she plays with the other ones a lot, she doesn't like this one much at all.
The main reason is that the bears are different sizes -- and the clothes/heads are not interchangeable between the bears! They are just slightly different sizes and the heads and clothes from Mama Bear do not fit in baby or papa. This is very frustrating to a toddler. They come sorted into three different compartments with each bear's pieces separate -- but within minutes of giving them to a toddler, they are (of course) mixed up. So it is then very tough to figure out which go with each bear. Unless you want to help sort them again for your toddler about every 5 minutes, I would suggest a different puzzle.
In addition, the quality of ours was not very good, and several of the baby bear outfits are not cut correctly so that they do not quite fit with the head in. Adding that to the sorting problem, I do not recommend this puzzle, there are definitely better ones.
If you are looking for a Melissa and Doug dress-up type puzzle, I suggest the magnetic types -- like Abby and Emma Magnetic Dress up puzzle or Joey Magnetic Dress up (firefighter) -- or the puzzles like Ballerina Dress-Up Mix 'n Match Peg or Princess Dress-Up Mix 'n Match Peg Puzzle, all of which are way better than this one.

I love this puzzle. My daughter who just turned two in october is having speech problems and works with a speech teacher once a week for an hour. she just started this in august and has developed alot within few months. One of their main toys they play with is puzzles. so this one i saw was great for her to work with the clothing and love the interchangable faces showing that one is grumpy, sad, happy, etc.

Plus my four year old likes to join along to play too!

I only purchased this because I needed to get to my $[...] shipping. My boys ages 2, 4 and 6 have played with this more than any other puzzle toy I've purchased. Together they can sit down and play with this for an hour. It's amazing!!

Our puzzle-mad son (age 2.5) loves, loves, LOVES this puzzle -- he'll endlessly swap around the three bears' outfits and facial expressions, all the while commenting on their moods ("Sad! Happy!") and wardrobe choices ("blue sweater!"). We gave this same puzzle to a slightly older friend (3-ish), and she uses the three bears to tell stories, swapping out pieces to support the plot as she goes along.

The only issue with this puzzle is that when we first gave it to our son (as a 2nd birthday present), he was too young to grasp that the pieces weren't interchangeable between the bears, leading to frustration when he tried to put Mamma Bear's head or blouse on Baby Bear's body. We put the puzzle up on the shelf for a few more months, took it down again, and had no more problems.

my daughter is 25 months now. she's been playing with this toy nearly every day for the past 6 months. she does not tire of changing the bears' expressions and making stories of why the 'mommy bear' has a sad face or an angry face... the toy has a great box to contain the many pieces. she carries the box all over the apartment.

I just got Melissa & Doug Wooden Bear Family Dress-Up Puzzle today.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. THIS IS NOT FOR BABIES! IT IS DANGEROUS. BABY CAN EAT GLUE AND "PAPER" STICKER!

1. Toy is made from the cheapest plywood WITH THE TERRIBLE QUALITY.

2. pictures chipped off in 5 minutes in babies mouth!!!!!

This is ridiculous. I pay for plywood with stickers?!!!!

Where is that crafted by hand quality? is it some kind of joke?

GOTTEN TODAY, RETURN TODAY.

UPDATE: fortunately I have found company that produces wonderful, smart and safe toys. Check: "Farm Peg Puzzle" and "Friendly Pets Knob Puzzle" Educo made by Hape. These are toys I was looking for!!!
