Match the mood
This adorable Mama, Papa, and Baby Bear family love to play dress-up and find just the right outfits to match their moods. The 45 beautifully crafted painted wooden pieces fit into the three insets in the decorated wooden puzzle board that also serves as a lid to the sturdy wooden storage case with three separate compartments. Pieces include different expressions for the three bears to convey mood and inspire storytelling, and tops and bottoms to mix and match.
Puzzle play is a wonderful way for children to have fun while developing physical, cognitive, and emotional skills. As kids work at solving puzzles, they are developing fine and gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination. They develop problem-solving skills and learn to think logically. Puzzles also help with shape recognition and help to enhance memory. This unique wooden dress-up puzzle also encourages kids to explore different emotions and moods, and promotes narrative thinking and storytelling skills.

One thing we found frustrating is that the pieces are not interchangeable between bears, however there's no easy way to tell which one goes with which bear. They arrive neatly organized in three separate sections of the bin, however that lasts about 12 seconds before they are all in one big pile.
I took paint markers and marked the back of each piece -- a red flower for momma bear, a blue star for pappa bear, and a green heart for baby bear. I then made the same marks on the puzzle base and the box sections.
This will help the kids be able to tell which pieces go where and to which bear. It will also add some color and pattern matching learning opportunities to the set. I've added an image to this listing with the markings added.
The main reason is that the bears are different sizes -- and the clothes/heads are not interchangeable between the bears! They are just slightly different sizes and the heads and clothes from Mama Bear do not fit in baby or papa. This is very frustrating to a toddler. They come sorted into three different compartments with each bear's pieces separate -- but within minutes of giving them to a toddler, they are (of course) mixed up. So it is then very tough to figure out which go with each bear. Unless you want to help sort them again for your toddler about every 5 minutes, I would suggest a different puzzle.
In addition, the quality of ours was not very good, and several of the baby bear outfits are not cut correctly so that they do not quite fit with the head in. Adding that to the sorting problem, I do not recommend this puzzle, there are definitely better ones.
If you are looking for a Melissa and Doug dress-up type puzzle, I suggest the magnetic types -- like Abby and Emma Magnetic Dress up puzzle or Joey Magnetic Dress up (firefighter) -- or the puzzles like Ballerina Dress-Up Mix 'n Match Peg or Princess Dress-Up Mix 'n Match Peg Puzzle, all of which are way better than this one.
Plus my four year old likes to join along to play too!
The only issue with this puzzle is that when we first gave it to our son (as a 2nd birthday present), he was too young to grasp that the pieces weren't interchangeable between the bears, leading to frustration when he tried to put Mamma Bear's head or blouse on Baby Bear's body. We put the puzzle up on the shelf for a few more months, took it down again, and had no more problems.
When I opened the box, many of the bear pieces were jagged as if someone still needed to sand them. The wood on three of the pieces is completely cracked. I DID NOT give this product to my kids. I may try to sand them down and just toss the three broken pieces.
If I let my kids play with this toy it will be COMPLETELY supervised.

Overall, this is cute, but could be better. The bear pieces are not interchange so toddlers just try to cram them into the spot they want them to go, then get frustrated. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Emily
