My nephew loved this train.
Stacey Tuckwiller
This product, howevere, did not meet expectations; the magnets were not strong enough to keep the train cars together when pulled around the track.

I bought this for my son because I know there is no lead paint in Melissa and Doug products. He loves the train itself. However, 3 of the trains, the passenger ones are longer than most train cars and have wheels that pivot, this causes problems when trying to move the train on the tracks. My 3 year old gets frustrated because these three train cars are always coming off the track. He got these for Christmas and now, almost a month later, he no longer wants to use the three troublsome cars.

As one other reviewer has already pointed out, the cars are quite long and its easy for them to come off the track on sharp corners.

The other issue is the way they are constructed, with pivoting trucks at the bottom of the train attached to the body by rivets. The bottom parts of the rivets hang down under the train and catch on places where the tracks are not completely level. Any track joint that sticks up a little bit or a countersunk screw that is not completely flush hits the train and makes it come off the rails. One could say the problem is with the track and not the train, but my son's set has several different brands of trains and this is the only set that has a problem on the track.

I was excited to find a modern looking train to add to my son's set, but I do not think this train was the best choice. I don't recommend it, especially for younger kids who get frustrated when things don't work right.

Toy train set was purchased for my 2 yr old son who LOVES trains. The trains offer just the right amount of interaction, fun and learning without being overwhelming.
I love that the trains are wooden, come in a case with compartments and have magnets to connect each together.
My son totes this toy all around town with him!

I got this train set and the figure 8 track for my 3 yr old nephew. He loves trains but plays with this only occasionally, probably in part because he has tons of other toys in addition to this. He seems to like it but he gets frustrated when the trains don't all stick together if you try to hook up all 6. After pulling it across the short track and around the bends, one train in the middle will quickly fall off track and break the set. So, we've found that if he only has two to connect together, he gets less frustrated. The other 4 just seem to get left on the tracks and not pulled along.

It's a really cute train, but the magnets aren't that great. I linked them all together and I couldn't pull it without the first car coming off. Then I pulled just two cars together and they went for a little bit, but the first car pulled off again. My son has a train of the letters in his name, and those magnets are stronger than these. I don't think I would have bought this knowing the magnets weren't that strong. I'd return it, but I don't know if I can now that I've opened it.

A fun toy to play with on the Step 2 train table. The only issue with the toy is that the pieces come apart easily and our toddler becomes frustrated when they won't stay together. I don't believe that I would purchase this product again. The toy is durable as long as you don't loose any of the pieces.

I really wanted to like this train set. My son loves these wooden train sets and constantly plays with his Thomas setup. We bought him this one and he used to play with it with no track before we got track. On hardwood it stayed together, On track the magnets are too weak and the cars do not stay coupled. The biggest reason for the one star though is the set is not even a year old and the paint is literally falling off the train. My son treats his toys well and always puts them back in his toybox, this isn't normal chipping, it is actual flaking off.

These are the worst trains we have. 3 of them are too long and can't make it around corners or up inclines. The axles of the other cars are way too far up on the car, making the wheels not deep enough. The cars high-center and drag, the wheels not making contact with the track. Also there was paint chipped in several places right out of the package. Maybe I got a bad set, but I would seriously suggest you avoid these trains.
