Be aware that it is pretty small. I think the picture makes it appear larger than it really is. It is like a small little trinket box. It is still cute and any girl would love to decorate this but just be aware of what you are getting size-wise.

The "treasure chest" was a heckuva lot smaller than it appeared in the picture!!! It was so small that the boy I was going to give it to would have been finished decorating it in less than 20 minutes. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift, but even though I paid almost $8.00 for it, it looked like I spent about $4.00. I had to send the item back. I was really, really disappointed.

Kind of beside the point, but still part of the experience: What's with the wooden TRAYS (I can't call them boxes) Melissa & Doug ships their stuff in? I buy a lot of M&D stuff, almost all of it with lots of pieces (games, bead sets, etc.), and the trays are absolutely useless for containing the parts because there are never any lids. If M&D are going to go to the trouble of creating such cool trays (and factoring them into the prices we pay), why not actually make them boxes with lids? These boxes don't have to be wood, so there doesn't necessarily have to be an increase in cost. Just sayin'.

My 3-year-old daughter is really into treasure chests. We painted it over several days and she would get so excited about "treasure chest" and was disappointed when we finished the project. Well worth the money.
