A Moderate Read,
By Erica (Atlanta, Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Melissa (Fab Five) (Paperback)
Just when Melissa thought her life was perfect, it started to crumble down. In the book Melissa, by Rosie Rushton, we learn about a teenage girl, who lives in England. Life is perfect for Melissa; her friends and family are great, until her mom tells her they are moving and she is going to take the job of the Priest. Melissa realizes the changes she must adjust to after the move. She feels that after she moves, her new friends will mock and embarrass her because of her mom's new job. After hearing this terrible news, Melissa becomes a sad and angered teenager. When Melissa moves, her "perfect" life starts to diminish gradually. Melissa struggles to make new friends, and tries endlessly to be accepted into the "popular" group. She soon becomes attracted to her brothers best friend. Soon after she is accepted into the "popular group," She progressively notices how snobby and rude the "popular" girls are, and realizes who her true friends really are. When she thinks her life cannot get any worse, she discovers that her dad is having an affair with another woman, on a "business" trip. This book depicts the struggles that Melissa goes through as she grows up. Although Melissa's problems are not solved clearly by the end of the book, the reader is able to comprehend that she is heading in the right direction to find resolutions for her problems. In this fiction story, the author wants you to learn and to see that even though life may seem perfect or great, dont take it for granted. She also wants you to see that life may bring trouble or hard times when you least expect it. I personally did not find this book very compelling or interesting. I advise 13-17 year old girls to read this book.

"Melissa"- sophisticated city girl gone country!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Melissa (Fab Five) (Paperback)
Rosie Rushton's newest book tells the tale of Melissa, a sophisticated city girl. When her mother announces that they are moving to the country so she can work as a priest, Melissa gets angry. The book tells of Melissa's struggles, some involving choosing her friends and a cute guy who is her brother's friend. This book is NOT about Poppy's sister, Melissa, from "Poppy", but instead tells the tale of a different girl. Contradictory to the other books in this series, "Melissa" does not involve Poppy, Livi or Sophie. An excellent boook if you're looking for a good read!
