I've owned and used daily several Cuisinart 12-cup programmable coffee makers with the included "gold" coffee filter for at least 10 years... but I've never bothered using a Melitta Cone Filter since I graduated from my old Mr. Coffee-type coffee makers. I was under the impression that the Cusinart gold filters didn't require the extra paper filter, and I don't think the instruction manual even suggests or recommends using a paper filter in addition to the gold filter.
However, when I recently bought my latest Cuisinart 12-cupper, it came with a starter set of two or three Melitta-type paper filters along with the included Cuisinart gold filter. I tried using the sample paper filters to line the gold filter, and the coffee seemed to taste a little cleaner and smoother.
But most important, my nightly clean-up and preparation routine for the next morning's fresh coffee was considerably simplified when all I had to do was remove the used paper filter with the soggy grounds from the morning's brew, and replace it with a new one and dump in fresh ground coffee. No mess, no fuss. When I shopped around for a box of replacement filters and found this special 12-pack of 40 Melitta filters each on amazon.com, it was a no brainer. By buying in quantity the price was only 4.3-cents a filter, and now I'm set for more than 1.3 years. How can you go wrong???

It seems I'm always forgetting to add these coffee filters to my grocery list. That means someone will have to make an unscheduled stop at some point because my husband drinks a lot of coffee. These are the only coffee filters he uses. We've tried other brands and also some store brands, but as soon as they are used up it's right back to the Melitta's. From the standpoint of a non-coffee drinker I really appreciate them because of the way they hold together after they've been used so I don't have nasty spillage problems on the way to the garbage can or grounds left in the basket.
I finally looked for this product on Amazon and was absolutely amazed at the low price for this many filters. It's going to be quite a while before I have to worry about running out of Melitta filters again.
