Nice design, but died young,

This review is from: Melitta ME10TDS 10-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Stainless-Steel Thermal Carafe (Kitchen)
The Melitta is a clean-design unit whose carafe does indeed keep coffee hot and drinkable for hours. As others have noted, however, there may be a problem with the relay or sensor that controls water intake to the heating tank. Our machine exhibited signs of brain damage about 15 months into its service life, despite manufacturere-specified cleaning and no abuse. It won't take up the full water supply. Since I can go back to using a reliable Braun unit and simply pour the brew into a separate thermal carafe, I do not plan to make a repeat purchase of the Salton-built Melitta machine.

I wish I had read these reviews before I bought this coffee maker. I'm shocked that so many people have had the SAME problem that we had with it! It turned off each time it brewed 2 cups so we had to keep turning it back on. The coffee didn't stay hot either. It sounds like the company needs to take it off the market.

Not Good,

When we purchased this item, we were paying a premium for the look. In summary:
1. The appearance was great, but that is the only positive with this unit. 2. Like the other reviews, this unit constantly shut on and off while brewing 3. We were not looking for an Espresso-like experience, but we felt the coffee was very watery. 4. The coffee poured extremely slow!! This might seem like a minor nuisance, but it was highly annoying. 5. Finally, after 6 months, it just died. So, poor coffee, poor reliability, not user friendly, poor durability. If there was a "0 Rating," that is the one I would have selected. It is too bad, as it is really an attractive unit and we would have compromised on a few of the deficiencies.

It's a keeper,
This review is from: Melitta ME10TDS 10-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Stainless-Steel Thermal Carafe (Kitchen)
This is a very good coffee maker. I strongly recommend it for a lower-end pot.
There is a learning curve for using it, though. When we first got it we had problems with overflow, until we learned that the basket and pot both have to be completely seated in order to work properly. It is a marvel of italian engineering: --carafe lip exactly fits the water chamber opening --basket drips directly into the pot, so the drip chamber doesn't have to be cleaned every time you use it --system is sealed so there is almost no steam leaking from the drip chamber, and so that the aroma goes into the pot instead of the air around the coffee pot --almost completely silent Most importantly, The coffee is the best we've ever had from a lower-end automatic pot. Coffee quality is excellent.

Waste of money,

Looked good and worked well for about 8 months then it died. While this is not the most expensive coffee maker out there I expected a lot more out of this one. My old Black and Decker that cost $20 dollars lasted me 5 years. Do not buy this product!!!!!!

Only lasted 3 months!,

Mine kept shutting off during the brew cycle after 3 weeks of having it! What a waste of money! It looks nice and it did keep my coffee warm, but when it takes 5+ times of hitting the brew button to make a pot ... I gave up. Do not waste your money.

One year ago I bought a Braun equivalent to the Melitta, and I confess that it has been one year of grief. It finally gave up the ghost, and I latched onto this Melitta based on its sharp appearance in my kitchen. The thing that impressed me is that my somewhat hapless Significant Other was able to set it up, make it work, present to me a terrific cup of coffe -- and all without swearing over the instructions, calling the company, or threatening to take it back to the store (standard operating procedure in this house of technical incompetents). It is programmable, has an automatic shutoff (thank you!), and has one of the nicest stainless steel carafes I have seen anywhere. I was mostly surprised that, two hours after brewing the first pot, the coffee was piping hot and fresh (not burned). This machine has all of the features anyone could want, it is straightforward, beautiful, moderately priced, and basically self-explanatory to operate. The bottom line is that I would choose the same coffee maker all over again if given the chance. I say, just say NO to Braun.

Most of the time it works well, but just as everyone else is saying, some times it shuts off after brewing 2 cups. It usually starts making puffing or chugging sounds and shuts off prematurely. When it does work correctly, it makes good coffee, but don't rely on the time because it may pull its "2 cup puff off" trick.

I thought that I was the problem with my coffeemaker. After less than 6 months it has exhibited the same problems that others have described. When you have to leave the house for work at 6:30 a.m. it is not feasible to push the "ON" button 6 times! Terrible product!

Buyer Beware!,
This review is from: Melitta ME10TDS 10-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Stainless-Steel Thermal Carafe (Kitchen)
We bought this unit on a recommendation from an (obviously uninformed) aquaintance. This machine was for a small business office, usually making one or two pots of coffee a day and no more. After 3 months (on average) this unit will begin to malfunction as described in other reviews. We contacted Salton for a replacement unit a total of FIVE times - 5! Each unit exhibited the same exact problems in relatively similar timeframes (3 months, etc) and all units were brand new - not refurbished or repaired. How this product made it past QA and into the consumer market is beyond me. Save yourself the headache and stay away from this machine!
