I bought the Melitta Dual Mug Coffeemaker to replace my Black & Decker Single Cup "Brew N Go" and am very pleased with the purchase. In contrast to the B&D model, you can brew two cups or just one with the Melitta unit. Although it doesn't contain a permanent metal filter, the plastic filter holder in the Melitta is easy to clean. The entire unit in fact is mostly plastic, so it remains to be seen how long it will last, but it is well built. One subtle advantage the Melitta provides is that the H20 tank has clear markers inside indicating acceptable water levels for either 1 or 2 cups. This is an often overlooked feature by many manufacturers and is appreciated here.As noted by other reviewers, the included mugs are only steel on the outside; the inside insulation is again plastic. The mug width (circumference) is slightly larger than normal so it may not slide easily into your car's cup holders but that's a minor inconvenience. Coffee does stay hot in the mugs, or at least warm enough to drink, for approx. 2 hours. The unit brews quickly so that it's easy to make a mug and head off to work. If you often stop for coffee in the a.m., I'd recommend you pick up this unit. It enables you to quickly brew a fresh mug made to your tastes while also saving you money.

I only drink one cup of coffee some morning when I feel like it. Also drink tea throughout the day. This coffee maker is just perfect for me. I get hot, fresh coffee or tea whenever I want to drink it. I also use it to make hot water for instant noodle. It heats up the water quickly. It takes no time to get a fresh cup of coffee/tea. It is just perfect for me. I normally make one cup of coffee/tea at a time, but I like the two-cup option. Whenever my friend comes to visit, I can make coffee/tea for her and I at the same time. The unit is very easy to use and clean. It requires a #2 paper filter. Some people may like a permanent filter better. However, I find a paper filter much easier to clean. I just pick it up and toss it in the trash. Then, I just rinse off the removable filter cup. I like the coffee cups. The are stylish. They are insulated. They keep the beverage warm longer than regular cups. They are easy to drink from (unlike some travel cups I have used). You can take them with you and set them in the cup holders in your car. I highly recommend this product to gourmet coffee drinkers who like to have a fresh cup every time. It also makes a great gift!

Fiddly - fills 2 mugs unevenly - leaks on counter-top,

The maker needs to be ABSOLUTELY level or else one cup will overflow and the other will not fill at all. The unit is way too sensative about being even slightly tilted. My unit sat on a seam in the formica and one side was about 0.5mm higher than the other. That is enough to cause a flood of coffee that overflows the drip tray and flows onto the countertop.
The way the water reservoir lid is attached makes it difficult to fill without spilling. The lid also drips 2cc of water when I raise it. It appears that water also leaks from the reservoir, but I haven't proven this conclusively yet; there is so much water everywhere it's hard to tell exactly how much of it is from each of the many faults. So far my mugs have held together... This appliance is an overall disappontment. All the little faults could be tolerated if there was only one, but the cumulation of many faults makes this coffeemaker one to avoid. NOT RECOMMENDED.

This coffeemaker makes one or two large travel mugs of coffee. It takes about 5 minutes to brew a single travel mug, not counting setup. Setup is as easy or easier than a regular coffee maker -- put in coffee, put in water, plug it in and press start. It takes a #2 cone filter which is available at any grocery store -- it isn't the standard basket type but it's pretty much just as easy to find. The mugs are dishwashable and the basket and spout are washable in warm soapy water.
The Take 2 is great if you like your coffee to go and/or if there is only one coffee drinker in your household. I typically brew a single mug at a time. I put flavored syrups in the bottom of the mug and it essentially "stirs" itself as it brews. It make a good cup of coffee (better when you use better coffee in it, of course). This is not the coffee maker for you if you want to make a pot of coffee or if you want smaller mugs of coffee -- you have to brew into the mugs that come with it. So it may not appeal to some folks who want something more versatile. On the plus side, however, it takes regular coffee rather than the "pods" that you have to buy especially for pod-type makers. I have had this for several months and had only one bad experience when the filter burst and I got a lovely mug full of sludge. I don't actually think that was the maker's fault -- I'll put that in my review of the filters! The Take 2 is a good, solid product that I would buy again.

From the picture alone, anyone can see that this isn't what you're looking for if you plan on making cups and cups and cups of coffee, but for what it's worth, it's great. It makes coffee just as well as any other coffeemaker would and the design is sleak - you can't beat that price. It comes with two thermos-type cups that each hold more than enough joe to start off your day and stay warm on those cold, winter days. Speed isn't an issue either, so whether you're on the go or just need a quick cup to get you going . . . live alone or the only coffee drinker in the house, this is just right.

Overall I have been happy with it. I normally only brew 1 cup so I don't have the problems with uneven distribution. My only complaint is that the coffee isn't quite hot enough. I don't use the cups that came with the coffer maker, they are mediocre. I recommend getting different cup. A good Thermos (Nissan) brand cup works great and keeps the coffee hot for hours.

Melitta should be embarrassed that such a flawed product has not been recalled and is actually still available. Like many of the other reviewers, I find it impossible to make two cups of coffee. Either one cup overfills or the coffee drips down the middle between the two cups and runs all over the counter. I haven't had the "exploding mug" experience, but find them so inferior to other travel mugs, I just don't use them. It's surprising to me that the overall rating is as high as three stars.

Nice for a pre-work coffee!,

I am very happy with my Melitta Set. I find it very easy to make coffee for me and my wife in the morning, just pour water, Chiapas Marago fine coffee on it, and while i take a shower, the Melitta does its job!I read the Houston Man review on it, and I can tell there is no problem with the Melitta on pouring more on one side or the other, it is just a matter of leveling it on the surface; that is why he got all three machines pouring more on the right side! Level it flat on your kitchen counter and it goes like magic! So I give it 4 stars because the Mugs are not top quality, they tend to scratch and fill with water on the inside if not washed carefully. But the price is right, and you can always get a nice couple of mugs after the ones included get trashed. A must if you love coffee driving to work.

I bought this in September, with some hesitation as the reviews posted were mixed. Things like uneven filling, leaking/breaking mugs, and messes on the counter concerned me.
But this coffee maker has performed great for me. I typically make single mugs, but I brew 3 - 5 mugs throughout the day. I did notice a little unevenness in the filling with two mugs, but nothing that bothered me. I hand-wash the mugs (no dishwasher!) and haven't had any problems with leaking or breaking or separating. And I have opened the top of the maker to remove the used grounds shortly after the brew cycle. I don't like to leave the grounds sit all day while I am at work. And I haven't had any messes on the counter. I think this is a great coffee maker for me. My recommendation is to read the reviews here and then decide whether or not to try this out. I am glad I did.

easy to use, but...,
By Pros: does not use pods, brews directly into the cups, very quiet. Cons: there is no one cup, two cup option/button. whatever amount of water is in there is what it's going to brew. the spout doesn't spit out the water evenly, so when you're making two cups, one is more full than the other. the spout is also high, so when you're brewing into a regular coffee cup, it splashes everywhere. there's something funny tasting about the coffee/water, almost soap like. I'm not sure if it's in the reservoir, or the tubes that it runs through. I ran 5 full cycles of plain water before using it for the first time and it still tastes like soap. I have not been able to take more than a sip. I end up getting frustrated and making a cup of instant coffee to go. I'll run another 5-6 cycles through to see if I can flush out whatever the funny taste is. If it doesn't work, then I'm going to return it and find something else. |
