Ah, the aroma of percolating coffee in the morning. And the sound, too, that perk, perk, perk promising a boost when it's needed. This pretty percolator brings the retro coffee-brewing method into the 21st century. A transparent knob on the top allows the brewing cycle to be monitored, as always, but this percolator adds convenience to tradition. Plug it in and brewing begins within seconds at a cup-a-minute speed (six cups maximum). The stay-cool bottom sets down on any surface without harm; the stay-cool handle permits safe pouring, and the power cord detaches to prevent counter clutter. Add a gleaming, mirror-polish body and matte-finish handle and bottom in blue, and function marries form winningly. The percolator cover, coffee basket and lid, and the pump tube go into the dishwasher. Wipe the percolator inside and out with a damp cloth. --Fred Brack

Then this little perculator is for you!! It is really cute and stylish, hardly taking up any counter space at all! I didn't realize how ugly and worn out looking my old drip pot was until I replaced it with my little 6 cup Meritta. This pot is super fast, perks out 6 cups of wonderfully hot coffee in 6 minutes (1 cup per minute). Once it has complete it's perking cycle, it keeps the remaining coffee nice and warm. I highly recommend Merlitta 6cup if you are tired of the endless drip, sick of looking at the huge unit on your counter and want a fresher tasting coffee.

I am as much of a coffee connisseur as the next person, and I certainly enjoy my double tall non-fat lattes. But, not having a lot of counter space, I needed a small coffee pot for home use. My friends cautioned me against a "percolator," but I wanted to try it. I have been enjoying it and quite like it for home use. It's nice to be able to brew a small pot of coffee and then either share a cup with a friend, or drink it myself throughout the morning. A couple of tips: Buy some good coffee with dark beans (french roast, or a good blend) and grind it on the percolator setting in the store. I started out with too fine a grind, and the coffee didn't taste very good, but when I switched to a coarser grind (and a different kind of coffee), it was much better. This is a great little coffee pot, but if you are a true coffee afficianado you should probably stick to a drip system.

My wife and I were delighted with the flavor from this Melitta MEP6 (otherwise known as Java Perk), having managed--somehow--on a cheap drip system for far too long. Set-up and maintenance is really easy, and the sound of it "perking" is delightful. It's also well-made and attractive.

Be warned, though--"6 cups" means six 5-ounce cups, means not quite four regular mug-fulls. Great for two people, though, and fast. Highly recommended.
