Reality Check Please...,

Wow! Amazing what people have written here. Hope this clears up some confusion:What this machine does NOT: - It does not make a real espresso. For the love of god, if you have ever tasted any espresso made with great beans and a proper espresso machine, you will know what I am referring to. A real espresso is very flavorful, dark in color, rich and with a thick head ('crema' for you coffee-philes). If you don't believe me, use any pod you like on the One:One and select the small serving. Then go to any cafe and order an espresso. The difference will smack you in the face. What this machines DOES: - Makes a pleasantly flavored, very drinkable coffee that is far better than your usual drip coffee makers but not as flavorful as a real espresso Now to address all the misinformation. "The machine leaks" - inserting the pods properly into the pod holder will create a tight seal, meaning water will not escape. The water container is a different story. It will leak a few drops of water when inserted into the coffee maker, but once it is in properly, there is no reason why it should leak. "The coffee tastes horrendous" - that is true, if you use the Melitta pods. The coffee they produce look pale and taste pretty much like nothing. Only Buzzworthy pods are remotely drinkable, but they are pretty hefty on the caffeine level. "You can only use Melitta pods" - absolutely false. Go to www.podhead.com and do yourself a favor, order their pods and discover the difference, you won't regret it. You can also go to www.easypods.co.uk, they sell an adapter that will allow you to use standard E.S.E pods (Easy Serve Espresso). "The coffee tastes like plastic" - although you might notice this the first few times you use the machine, the taste should disappear after a while. "It only makes small cups" - well if you believe your coffee should be the size of your car's tank, then yes, it makes small cups. If you select the small setting, it will give you the equivalent size of two or three espressos. If you select the larger setting, it will give you enough to fill a regular coffee cup. As you long as know it's limits, this is a practical machine and can be found for less than $40 dollars. For something more like a real espresso, you need to spend close to $300 for a pod-like machine that has enough water pressure to really get all the intensity from the coffee beans. I'm giving it 3 stars based on construction quality and the coffee it can produce- good, but not great.

I have become tired with the "burnt" coffee flavor of Starbucks and other coffee houses so I decided to give this machine a try and WOW was I glad I did. It is easy to use and makes great coffee and tea. If you dont like Melitta's coffee then go to podhead.com and order some real good coffee. If your a coffee snob who has to have his coffee house flavor then this is probably not for you but it's real close !

Works great, even with other PODs!,
This review is from: Melitta MES1W OneOne Single Serve Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
Well, it seems that other people have had problems with this particular machine, but mine is great. I was able to put Maxwell House PODs in mine, and it works fine, no leaks. I also used a Celestial Seasons teabag in it, and had it make me some tea! Worked perfectly.

BEATS DRIP COFFEE, HANDS-DOWN!,

When I decided to purchase a single-serve coffee maker, I read EVERY review, twice, before buying this one several days ago. I must admit that the deal I got through QVC to purchase the Melitta was part of the appeal, but the concept of a pod coffee maker was quite appealing as well. My darling husband has the Keurig machine (Green Mountain pods) at his work, and just loves it, so I thought it was worth a try at home. Well, I was unsure what to expect given the mixed reviews, but was pleasantly surprised to LOVE it. I have tried all of the blends, and am impressed at the taste of each of them. Personally, I love the hazelnut, mild and medium roast blends, but my preference is milder coffee anyway. I was able to drink the dark roast coffee by using a larger mug and pushing the 5 oz size twice. I wouldn't do that with the milder roasts, but you get the picture. My husband has indicated that the coffee from this single-serve machine is BETTER than the Green Mountain coffee he drinks at work (black, I might add). Another friend who drinks black coffee tried it out last week, and thought it was great too. Just to compare, I brewed a pot of Maxwell House french roast (my standard coffee of choice) yesterday and could barely drink it! The difference is striking, and the Melitta coffee is a huge improvement over drip coffee. I also did my research and found 2 websites that sell Melitta adapters to use 44 mm pods (E.S.E. compatible). For the true coffee fanatics, www.podheads.com and www.easypods.com sell alternative pods of coffee(but it's twice the price). Is it worth it? I have my doubts, but may try it nonetheless. It also appears that the 62 mm pods found in the Senseo and Black and Decker models might work in this machine (or so I've been told). If you read the manual and follow the directions, you will find NO LEAKING, NO DRIPPING or problems with its use. Don't be intimidated by the 'priming' of the machine. It basically means filling up the water tank, pushing the "ON" button once, then simultaneously pressing the 2-serving sizes buttens. And 30 seconds later, it's ready to go. BUT it only needs to be done before the first use, and as needed if the coffee maker isn't used for 3 days. If that's too much work, I can't imagine what REAL work is! I love the idea of making a fresh cup of coffee anytime without having to deal with brewing an entire pot, throwing most of it away, and cleaning out the machine. It looks great, tastes great, and is well worth the investment. I would give it 5 stars, except for the fact that the Melitta coffee options are limited (to 6 varieties). I haven't tried the tea pods, but anticipate they will be yummy as well. My 5 year old looks forward to making hot chocolate this winter (since it can be used to drip water without a pod inserted). Hopefully Melitta will team up with other companies to expand the choices. In the meantime, I'll just make myself a cup of coffee :)

Best kitchen appliance I've ever had,

I just love this coffeemaker. I am the only one in the house who drinks coffee and I used to have half-pots of stale coffee sitting around the house; it's hard to make small amounts of coffee in drip makers, and French presses are so messy. Drip makers don't make the best coffee, either.
This coffeemaker solves all those problems. It's easy, neat, no measuring, and the coffee tastes GOOD! I feel like I'm not wasting money/coffee, and I'm really enjoying the coffee as well. I used to go out for coffee every morning, for about $1.75 (just a cup of plain coffee) -- I calculated that the coffee maker paid for itself off in 1 month. The coffee really tastes like coffee-house coffee. I've never written a review before, but I feel strongly about this item. Highly recommended.

Great news! E.S.E. 44mm adapter available for one:one!,

I have the One:One in my office because it is a great machine. However, Melitta and podhead.com pods are a little weak for someone like me who enjoys strong espresso.I just discovered that a UK company has made an adapter for the One:One to use 44mm pods such as Illy's E.S.E. pods (the One:One adapter is "UDM"). Since I think Illy espresso coffee is the very best, I'm very happy about this. For more info, check out the pod adapter secion of this webpage: http://www.easypods.co.uk For more info on Illy coffees go to www.illy.com

I love this little coffee maker. My hubby, who gets up before me, makes a pot of coffee and leaves me about 1/2 cup. Now he can have the whole pot and I make myself whatever flavor I am in the mood for. And the decaf is excellent. I used to use instant decaf at night and let me tell you that is foul tasting. All in all, I think this is one great little item and am getting a second one for the trailer!

I bought one of these Melitta machines after reading all of the reviews on Amazon. I heard it leaked, heard the coffee was too weak and too cool, but it was a special of the day on QVC, and came with 144 pods, and I decided to try it since if it was THAT horrible, I could easily return it.
I LOVE this machine. It doesn't really leak. If you don't seed the pod correctly, yes, a little coffee comes out after you remove your cup, but once you learn how, there is no such problem I really like most of the coffees -- especially the hazelnut, the aroma of which wafts up from the pod itself when you open the packet. I also really like the Buzzworthy (and it DOES live up to its name) and the vanilla. I have served it to guests after dinner -- it doesn't take longer than making a pot of drip coffee, and now one person can have decaf, another can have a flavour, etc. I have placed my Melitta on the spot that used to be occupied by my drip coffeemaker and grinder. I have enough extra space now to also have moved my utensil crock over. It's quick (especially in the morning when it flows directly into my go-cup), the coffee is fine and dandy, and I haven't had any of the problems mentioned by others. I recommend it heartily to anyone who drinks just a couple cups a day. (If you are someone who drinks something like 8 cups in the morning, everyday, like some folks I know, then it wouldn't be a great deal. But if you don't need a full 24 oz. just to find your glasses, it's terrific!)

Leaky product, unknown how they could be selling it.,

I was very excited to bring this coffee maker home and try it out. Initially, the coffee was poor and un-rewarding, but after about 6 cups it settled out and made very nice coffee. Up to this point, I was relatively happy. Shortly after however, I was noticing water puddles on my counter. I figured out the coffee maker was leaking slightly around the coffee pod area, just a slot leak, but enough that I returned it. Now I bring home nummber 2... and almost instantly, the thing is leaking very quickly. This time, not around the pod area, but from the base of the water tank itself. Not even making coffee, I could watch it drain right onto my counter. This one got returned too. I really liked the look and even the coffee from it, but they haven't mastered holding water. Very leaky, I couldn't recommend one to anybody, too bad really. |
