5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic espresso maker for the price!
I can't figure out what you guys are all in a twist over. I bought this machine, minus the espresso cups, frothing pitcher, etc., and I only paid $10 less for all the goodies you got (this offer wasn't available when I was looking for an espresso machine.)

This is the SAME model as the one I got, minus all the frills you got for ten bucks. I bought this over a year ago,...

I bought this over a year ago, and it's a FANTASTIC espresso machine! It works great, makes wonderful espresso, fantastic lattes (my fave), and it's easy to clean and completely reliable.

I was looking for a second model to give to my boyfriend for a birthday president, and lo and behold, this uber deal is available! I'm taking advantage of it, and why not? Ever since my boyfriend tasted how great the espresso is from this machine, he's been trying to steal mine!

I HIGHLY recommend it (and you guys would know this if amazon hadn't removed the OTHER review on just the machine, minus all the bonuses. There, this same machine got FOUR stars, and that's what I based my original purchase on.

Btw...they were RIGHT.) :)

After spending over $50.00 bucks at Starbucks buying cappuccinos...I decided to try the Melitta Espresso Maker. I guess I was LUCKY not to get any broken cups, or coffee grounds spilled in my kitchen... I opened the Maker, and found a good looking machine and "Made in China" accesories (hey ! again for that price...what to expect right?) It is distributed by Salton-Preston and just like the first enthusiast, "NO COFFEE WHATSOEVER" (there is a reply mail card which states "IN VERY SMALL PRINT"..."The manufacter APOLOGIZES and takes FULL responsibility for any incovenience caused as a result of the omission of the coffee from the product carton...")Lucky me I had some at home...They did include, though, a business reply mail prepaid coupon to be able to get the can of Espresso Roast coffee. Do not attempt to call the 800 number on the card (Toastmaster number? )...They said to "better just send the coupon"...So I will have to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery...(That's a MINUS, right there...) My first capuccino came out OK ! the froth accessory work well. And the coffee did come out as expected after 4 minutes. I am keeping it...but I hope it doesn't act up after the 30 days satisfaction guaranteed period! But, again, for the price, I took the chance, and "so far so good" ! Ciao Starbucks...I have my own now at a decent price !

4.0 out of 5 stars the basic starter espresso maker, August 19, 2004
This review is from: Melitta MEXKITB Espresso Maker with 20-Piece Kit (Kitchen)
i am a full time student and am on a budget.
i needed a unit that would make espresso and this came with cups.

good:
-inexspensive
-makes good espresso(use fresh grounds)
-easy to use
-compact
-easy to clean
bad:
-it has problems with making warm froth(i drink only espresso, so not a problem for me).
- melitta could make a better instruction booklet
-the desert book doesnt give tips on how to make espresso

this is a good starter unit for the home espresso maker, but if you are an exsperinced espresso maker, you might want one with more frills.

this is the basic espresso maker, but it works well.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than "fine for the price", March 21, 2004

The cups, saucers, and froth pitcher are worth the price of the box. The machine isn't an expensive superb one, but think of it is a freebie included w/ the great dishware, and it's fantastic!

It even bests some machines we've previously had, including faster boiling, a sturdier design, a more substantial spill tray, and a frothing tip that's not only far more effective but completely removable and so infinitely easier to clean.

It has it's faults, and is a decent machine. But for the price? Bravo!!

1.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for, February 13, 2001

I bought this espresso maker about a year ago. It was thecheapest one I could find and price was the only basis for mydecision. However, you get what you pay for. It worked fine forseveral months, but two months ago, steam started escaping out fromunder the tightly screwed on lid. Finally last week, it exploded andthe steam spout shot clear across my kitchen. END

5.0 out of 5 stars need affordable expresso?, March 12, 2006
This review is from: Melitta MEXKITB Espresso Maker with 20-Piece Kit (Kitchen)
Ok I can only drink good expresso so my requirement for a machine was that it had to make great coffee...(substandard I cannot digest)....,convenient size...affordable...I'm a teacher!!! Melitta surpasses all my expectations and I am in love...My only regret is getting the 20 pc. set(very cheap pieces) which is headed straight for the garbage. The machine alone is under $30 so even if you buy it for the office which is where my second purchase is headed it still works out better than buying Starbucks or Bodega coffe for $2-$4 a pop. AND IT'S A MUCH BETTER CUP..... I have read complaints about the steamer but I haven't used it often enough to detect a problem....and all I really care about is the expresso.....

Having searched through all of the reviews hear on Amazon and after looking athe different companies web pages, I decided on the Melitta MEXKTIB because it had the best reviews, and they ended up being right. This is good for an average home user who wants to make espresso or latte's without paying $4 for a shot. So far I have had no trouble at all and am very happy with it.

Since I just wanted a small unit for a morning cappuccino, this Melitta is perfect for me. The coffee is hot and tastes good. (Just experiment to get the right amount of coffee.) I like a full mug, so I make two cups at the same time. Why would anyone gripe about all the free accessories or that they're made in China? (How many things do you find "Made in the US" any more??) The heavy white frothing pitcher alone was worth it for me (and Melitta coffee beans were included in my box--that's a $7 bonus right there!) There was a free cookbook and all those cute espresso cups, spoons, cappuccino cups, etc.! But the important thing was the unit itself--it works fine for me. I find it best to let the coffee start dripping into the carafe (wait until it's about half way done) before starting to froth the milk--to get more steam; not right away. Otherwise, it's been a gem of a machine so far, and an incredible value! I'd highly recommend it!

Considering the price, the Melitta Espresso machine is a good value. It's not for heavy use though. Rubber seal keeps coming loose on my model and I have to make sure the lid is tight securely.
Over all I'm happy with my purchase

1.0 out of 5 stars Never made hot espresso, but now doesn't even make warm, April 3, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Melitta MEXKITB Espresso Maker with 20-Piece Kit (Kitchen)
Out of the box this never made hot espresso, it was warm at best. After a few weeks of use it didn't even warm it any more. Not worth buying. Pay more for something better that will last or you'll be stuck heating up your drink once it's made.
